💛𝐀 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤

What a few months it has been!
We have worked absolutely 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 to support families across the district, and we genuinely could not have done it without the incredible donations, fundraising, referrals, shares and general support we’ve received. We are so, so grateful. 🥹💛

We’ve been able to help 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 get the uniform they need, and that is exactly why we do what we do.

However, for the first time this year, we’ve also had some disappointing experiences which we feel we need to address.

We have had an increasing number of 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘅 despite these items being prepared and set aside specifically for families who have requested them. We have also experienced some 𝘂𝗻𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, which our volunteers should never have to deal with.

Sadly we have received a small number of 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀. This has a real impact on our ability to support families who genuinely need our help, and on the time our volunteers have available to do so.

We are a 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿-𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Every item we give out has been donated by someone, sorted by someone and prepared by someone. Our volunteers give their time freely, and we simply ask that the same respect is shown back to us. ❤️

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀.

This will give our volunteers a much-needed chance to rest and recharge, as well as allowing us to carry out a full stock take and reset before we reopen.

We’re working extremely hard behind the scenes to get as many uniform requests sorted as possible before the new school year. 💚

As we get closer to September, though, time is becoming very tight.

𝐀𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦.

Wherever possible, choosing 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐱 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤 rather than delivery makes it much more likely that we can get your uniform to you in time.

It also saves us a huge amount of time on individual deliveries — which means we can use that time to prepare uniform and 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬.

We’ll keep doing everything we possibly can, but please help us to help as many people as possible. 💚

The weeks are passing by so quick we have so many on our list for college and university clothes and shoes and bags 🥺 we need a massive boost in age 16+ clothing male and female 🤞 we want these young ones to start their next chapter in life on an even chance with others 🤞 we can’t add any more onto our list as we would have to let them down before we give them hope 😢 please tag your young people who don’t have to worry they have nothing to wear ❤️ maybe they have things they don’t wear 🤞

📦 Can you help us help even more families?

As we head into our busiest time of year, we’re working hard to make sure every child has the school uniform they need for September.
One of the biggest demands on our small volunteer team is delivering uniform. At the moment, only two volunteers are able to carry out deliveries, which means every collection made in person frees up valuable time to help even more families.
If you’re able to collect your order, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could use our collection point at The Give Box Community Shop, Trinity Walk.

🕙 Collection times: Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm.

The shop is easy to reach, including via Wakefield’s free city bus.

We completely understand that some families genuinely need a delivery, and we’ll always do our best to support those who can’t collect. But if getting to Trinity Walk is possible for you, choosing collection really does make a huge difference.

❤️ WOW… just look at this! ❤️

This is one of donation bins collected from our wonderful Walton Primary Academy drop-off point. 🥹

As another school year comes to an end, we’d like to say a huge thank you to every family who has popped in a bag of uniform, PE kit or school essentials. Every single item makes a difference.

The summer holidays might feel like a chance for a rest (and we hope everyone gets one!), but behind the scenes it’s one of our busiest times of year. We’re sorting, checking, washing, drying (thank you, sunshine! ☀️), folding and organising thousands of items ready for September, when demand for school uniform is at its highest.

Your generosity means children can start the new school year feeling confident, included and ready to learn, without the added financial pressure on their families.

If you’re having an end-of-term clear out, please don’t throw out uniforms that still have plenty of life left in them. We’d love to give them a second chance.

☀️ It might only be July, but behind the scenes it’s already feeling a little bit like September at Small Steps! ☀️

This week has been a busy one with sorting, sizing, packing and preparing uniforms ready for the new school year. Add in the heatwave, football tournaments, end-of-term events and holidays on the horizon and summer is certainly keeping us on our toes! ⚽🌡️🎒

We’ve already started putting together uniform packs for local families and we know that over the coming weeks demand will only continue to grow.

If you’re having a summer clear out and have any good quality school uniform that your children have outgrown, we’d be incredibly grateful for donations.

Every jumper, polo shirt, cardigan, skirt or pair of trousers donated helps another local child head back to school feeling confident and ready to learn.

We know we’ve been a little quiet recently but there’s been lots happening behind the scenes.
Much of our time has been spent preparing for the influx of referrals as we get ready to support families as the new school year approaches
Just a little update- if your referral is for September we might hold onto it a little longer so we can add to it with new donations
