September was another busy month at OCU, and we are loving it!

We issued 232 loans, totalling £849,024! Top 3 reasons for borrowing are Family Needs, Cars, and Household Expenses. In today's economy, when everyone is feeling the pinch, we are so grateful to be able to help our members with what they need most.

At Omagh Credit Union, we know the importance of regular saving and learning good saving habits early, which is why our Junior members are so important. Plus, they are the future of the Credit Union!

So, to celebrate Junior Savers Week, we will deposit £10 into every new Minor Account that is opened in our Omagh or Newtownstewart office THIS WEEK, 5th - 11th October.

Last night we had the absolute honour of attending the Tyrone Business Awards 2026 at Corick House, after being shortlisted for not one, but two fantastic awards:

Community Impact – Community Development Award – recognising an organisation that has made a meaningful and lasting difference to the lives of others through community engagement, social initiatives or charitable activity.

Commitment to People Award – recognising a business that puts people at the heart of its success through investment in employee wellbeing, development, inclusion, engagement and workplace culture.

Being shortlisted in both categories was an amazing achievement in itself, particularly given the incredibly high standard of businesses and organisations across Tyrone. But we’re absolutely delighted to share that… WE WON BOTH! 🏆🏆

We’re over the moon and incredibly proud to receive this recognition. A huge thank you to the Tyrone Business Awards 2026 for two fantastic awards and such a memorable evening.

At Omagh Credit Union, our members, our team and our wider community have always been at the heart of everything we do. That will never change. We simply try to do our very best for the people we serve every day, so to have that commitment recognised in this way really is the icing on the cake.

School Savings are Back!
This is just a little reminder that we are back collecting the School Savings from our local Primary Schools:

If your child attends any of these schools and has an Omagh Credit Union savings account, they can lodge money through the school savings with a member of our team. If you are interested in opening an account for your child with us, just give us a call or call into our office and speak to a member of our team.

This is a great way to start good saving habits with your children that they will carry with them. You can save as little as you wish, and remember, it takes little pennies to create big dreams!

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, a chance to come together, raise awareness, and show support for everyone affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Living with dementia can be challenging, not only for those diagnosed but also for their families, friends, and carers. Getting a diagnosis earlier can make a real difference, helping people access support, treatment, and plan for the future with confidence. Let's help break the stigma, start more conversations, and remind people they're not alone. Whether it's sharing information, checking in on a loved one, or learning more about brain health, every small action matters.

Let's spread awareness, kindness, and understanding today and every day.

Palliative Care Week 2026 aims to raise awareness and challenge common misconceptions about palliative care through the theme, “It’s Not What You Think.”

Palliative care is a holistic approach that supports people of all ages living with life-limiting illnesses, focusing on physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing from diagnosis onwards, not just at the end of life. It helps manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and support families and carers. Palliative care is not only for people with cancer or those nearing death; it can benefit anyone with a serious illness and may even help people live longer and better.

We were delighted to have representatives from the Western Trust Palliative Care Team in our Omagh office this week to speak with anyone who had questions or concerns, and share information about the many benefits of Palliative Care in our local community. We are so lucky to have this amazing support system, if and when we need it, and we would like to say a big thank you to all who attended.
