Trade union safety reps aren’t just a role — they’re the backbone of safer workplaces.

Every single day, they’re out there making a real difference:

🔍 Spotting hazards before someone gets hurt
📢 Raising concerns and pushing for action
📝 Investigating accidents and near‑misses
🤝 Working with management to fix problems and improve conditions
🛟 Supporting colleagues who feel unsafe or unheard
📈 Driving better standards and stronger safety policies

When safety reps are empowered, everyone benefits - fewer accidents, healthier teams, and workplaces where people feel protected, respected, and able to do their jobs safely.

💛 Back your safety reps.
They’re fighting for you, every day.

📈 Union membership in the UK is growing — and for good reason.

More and more working people are joining trade unions because they want fair pay, proper protections, and a voice that’s heard.
According to the Department for Business and Trade, union membership rose by 192,000 in 2025, reaching 6.6 million members, the highest level in years. That’s nearly a quarter of all UK employees now standing together for better treatment at work.

Why does this matter?
Because the more members a union has, the more power it has to negotiate stronger pay deals, safer conditions, and fairer contracts. Collective strength means employers listen, and change happens.

But being a member isn’t just about bargaining power. It also comes with real benefits:

✅ Free legal advice and support through union‑appointed solicitors
✅ Expert workplace representation when you need it most
✅ Guidance on health, safety, and wellbeing
✅ Access to training, campaigns, and a community that’s got your back

If you believe working people deserve better, now’s the time to join the movement that’s making it happen.

💜 Dementia Action Week | 18 – 24 May 2026 💜

This week, CWU North Anglia Branch is helping shine a light on Dementia Action Week and raising awareness of a condition that affects around 1 million people across the UK.

Dementia does not just impact the individual diagnosed — it affects families, friends, carers and entire communities. With 1 in 3 people born in the UK today expected to develop dementia in their lifetime, it is something that touches so many of our lives.

By talking openly, increasing understanding and showing compassion, we can help break down stigma and ensure those living with dementia feel supported and included.

There are many different forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia and frontotemporal dementia, each affecting people in different ways.

CWU North Anglia Branch stands in solidarity with all members, families and carers affected by dementia. 💜

Super proud of our Women’s Officer, Jodie Fuell.
Her first CWU Conference, and she stood with confidence and conviction to support Motion 58, a motion brought by our friends in the South East Telecoms Branch.

Motion 58 calls for the T&FS Executive to negotiate with BT so that attendance at a Women’s Health Workshop becomes a mandatory requirement for all managers as part of their professional development. This is about ensuring managers understand women’s health, can support their teams properly, and ultimately help improve the working lives of our members.

Jodie spoke up for dignity, understanding and fairness, and she did it brilliantly.

A huge well done to her for representing our branch and championing women’s health in the workplace. Moments like this show exactly why representation matters.

On the fifth day of the 2026 CWU Conference, our Branch Secretary Leighton Chick rose to support our colleagues from South London, Surrey & North Hampshire Branch on Motion 59, a motion calling for dignity in every workplace and demanding that all employees, members and visitors have access to clean, hygienic and legally compliant welfare facilities.

This is a basic right. It should never depend on postcode, building age or cost‑cutting.

We’re proud to say that Conference unanimously passed Motion 59.
A clear message has been sent: welfare standards matter, and change must come.

Our branch stands firmly behind this work, and we look forward to seeing meaningful improvements in the near future.
Dignity at work isn’t optional — it’s essential.

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week – CWU BAME Focus💚

Mental health affects everyone, but it is not experienced equally across all communities.

Evidence from the Mental Health Foundation shows that people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds can face additional social and structural pressures that increase the risk of poor mental health and create barriers to accessing support. These include discrimination, inequality and reduced access to appropriate care.

Research also highlights that identity-based mistreatment (including racism and discrimination) is a key factor linked to poorer mental health outcomes and increased risk of anxiety, depression and stress.

Key findings from UK research include:

People from some ethnic minority communities are more likely to experience discrimination in areas such as employment, education and housing, which can negatively impact mental wellbeing.
Some groups experience higher levels of mental health need but face greater barriers to accessing support services.
Experiences of racism and exclusion are linked to increased psychological distress and long-term impacts on wellbeing

For many in the BAME community, there can also be additional challenges such as:

Stigma around discussing mental health
Cultural expectations to “cope in silence”
Lack of culturally understanding support
Fear of not being taken seriously when seeking help

At CWU, we recognise that these are real experiences that must be acknowledged if we are serious about improving mental health support for all members.

💚 This week is about taking action:

Check in with colleagues and friends
Listen without judgement
Encourage open conversations

🗣️ You are not alone
🤝 Support should be fair and equal
💚 Your experiences matter

Let’s continue working towards workplaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

If anyone has any concerns or simply wants to talk, please feel free to get in contact with our BAME Officer

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 💚

This year’s theme is “Action” and sometimes the most important action we can take is simply noticing when someone might be struggling and letting them know they’re not alone.

At CWU North Anglia, we understand that many people carry pressures quietly every single day. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, grief, burnout and personal struggles are often hidden behind a smile, a joke, or someone just “getting on with it.”

Mental health affects all of us differently, and too many people still suffer in silence because they feel they can’t speak up or don’t want to burden others. That’s why creating supportive workplaces and genuine conversations matters.

As a branch, we want our members to know that their wellbeing matters just as much as the job they do. This year, CWU North Anglia is looking to train more Mental Health First Aiders so that more support is available across the branch for anyone who may need someone to talk to, guidance, or simply a listening ear.

Sometimes you don’t need to have all the answers; just checking in with someone and asking, “Are you really okay?” can mean more than you realise.

Please remember:
💚 You are not alone
💚 It’s okay to ask for help
💚 Talking about mental health should never be a weakness

Let’s continue looking out for one another, not just this week, but every day.

Wear It Green Day takes place on the 14th of May to show support, raise awareness, and stand together for better mental health for all.
