Energy bills are changing, with extra support announced for households. 🏠

A £100 energy payment will be paid to up to 20 million households in council tax bands A to D in England, with funding also going to the devolved governments.

The 0% VAT rate on household electricity will also continue until 30 June 2027, while gas standing charges are set to be removed by the end of 2027 or as soon as possible afterwards.

Some pensioners could pay less Income Tax from April 2027.

A new Pension Tax Allowance will mean people over State Pension age with total income up to the full new State Pension of £13,036.40 won't be brought into paying Income Tax as a result of increases to the State Pension.

At the same time, tax rates on savings and property income are set to rise by a further two percentage points from April 2027.

Middle-East War – How does it impact finances?

We were all no doubt shocked by the weekend’s events in the Middle East. The US and Israel launched a full-scale strike on Iran, targeting leadership figures, nuclear facilities, ballistic-missile sites and wider military infrastructure. Iran has retaliated with missile strikes against Israel and US bases in the Gulf.

Our heartfelt sympathies go to those affected, including civilians harmed by strikes and travellers stranded by airport closures in the Gulf region.

It’s only natural to feel uncertain about the impact this could have on markets, your investments, and whether or not you should be taking any action.

While the situation remains fluid and is unsettling, geopolitical shocks of this type are not new, and markets have historically absorbed similar events with volatility typically fading as the situation becomes clearer.
