Burren Men's Shed

Burren Men's Shed A community space for men to connect, converse and create based on the Bridge Road, Burren

The Burren Men’s Shed network is specifically targeting social isolation which can negatively impact men of a certain age by creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all. Our particular focus is on improving the physical and mental well-being of men and our communities, fostering creativity, and forming strong community bonds of friendship and cooperation through working together.

Ah, thank goodness the sun has come out and somebody turned up the thermostat out there! And just in the nick of time too...
Here's your timely reminder about our big litter clean-up around Burren's highways and byways. It will be great to see lots of volunteers THIS SATURDAY MORNING at the Shed. Remember, we'll supply litter pickers and binbags and we're very happy to allocate you a route to focus on. The craic is always good at our volunteer events, and the difference your effort makes to our community's appearance is massive. Please stay for a well-deserved cup of tea or coffee at the Shed as well.
Thanks in advance!

A few volunteers from the "Youth wing"😂 of Burren Men's Shed got out this afternoon and tidied up around the edges of the wildflower area along the Ballydesland Road at Carrickdesland. The idea is that if we keep the edges trimmed and allow the multitude of beautiful wild blooms to flower all summer long, there won't be any confusion about how beautiful and ecologically important this little patch of human-helped nature is. Hopefully we'll all get to enjoy the flowers this year. As they say, "Excuse the weeds.....we're feeding the bees".

We'd like to invite the community of Burren and beyond to lend a much-needed hand with our annual 'Big Burren Clean-Up.' We'll be gathering at the Men's Shed (beside Burren Village Green and Busy Bee's Playgroup) from 10am on Saturday 23rd May and handing out bin bags, gloves and litter pickers. We'll let you know what stretches of local roads need attention and put a cup of tea or coffee in your hand. There's always a good turn-out of enthusiastic volunteers, but we need MORE! Please come with family and friends and make a good morning of it, returning our really beautiful country roads to their very best.
We look forward to welcoming you all.

The weather's beautiful and the gardeners have been busy at the Shed. Flower planters are looking well and the vegetables have begun to come on in the polytunnel. It's the time of year we get to planning the summer Burren Men's Shed flower baskets display around the park railings to bring colour and joy to the heart of the village. Last year we funded this important project through families, individuals and businesses sponsoring baskets. That will continue this year, so if you would like to support our hard work and sponsor a flower display, please contact us with your name and number. £25 per basket.
This year, to boost our flower fund, we're hosting a Burren Breakfast Bap morning at the Shed on Sunday 10th May! Chef Adrian Fitzpatrick has very kindly volunteered his time and culinary expertise to cater for the event. We will welcome everyone from 10am until noon. Only £5 per person! Where else would you get it?

Down at the Shed we're really excited about our latest creative project! We've been working with the brilliant local sculpture artist, Alan Cargo, whose amazing creations can be seen bringing beauty and curiosity to so many towns across Ulster. Alan has been mentoring us in our creation of a big, beautiful Burren Men's Shed sign for the front gable wall of our Shed. It comprises of steel, wood and acrylic and we drew our inspiration for the piece from old field maps of our local area - specifically the mystical 'Ring Field' on the summit of Ballydesland Hill. The twelve townlands of Burren are all represented, as are many of the things that you'd often spot around our district or at the Shed. We are aiming to get the sign/sculpture completed in January and then displayed for all to see.
