Newcastle Tenants and Residents Federation

Newcastle Tenants and Residents Federation Newcastle Tenants and Residents Federation is a registered charity representing tenants and residents associations (TARAs) throughout Newcastle upon Tyne.

Newcastle Tenants Federation was founded as an unincorporated association representing the interests of social housing tenants. It has evolved into a registered charity, which represents the interests of residents of all tenures, as well as owner occupiers. The Federation has had a strategic funding relationship with Newcastle City Council since 1985, through the Housing Revenue Account (the Rent

Account). A three year Service Level Agreement is now in place, which has given the organisation financial stability and ensured that council tenants are at the heart of the decision making processes regarding their homes. We have an office at Fawdon Community Centre, in north Newcastle, and currently have three full time employees and four sessional workers.

The National Tenant Organisation launched the Investing in Involvement programme at the Chartered Institute of Housing conference last week. The guidance and statements produced by the pilot schemes are available at https://nationaltenants.org/investingininvolvement/

They are keen to see as many landlords as possible working with their tenants to produce an annual Investing in Involvement Statement. As a housing sector, we all need to get across a clear message that there many benefits that come from involving tenants - and we need to tell everyone about this.

Producing a statement does not need to be a lot of work - particularly if you already have some evidence available of the outcomes of tenant involvement. An Investing in Involvement Statement is a simple summary of the benefits you get from involvement - and the pilot statements on the website - encompassing a wide range of approaches and different types of landlords - will help you to get a feel for what we are hoping organisations will produce.

When you have produced your Investing in Involvement Statement - we want to hear from you. If you send us your statement in pdf format - we will include it on our website. Our aim is to include growing numbers of organisations who value what they get from their tenants being involved.

The key message is that involving tenants in your housing business is an investment you cannot afford not to make. Tell the world about it!!!

Investing in Involvement is an accessible framework for tenants and employees in Registered Provider landlords to identify the benefits deriving from tenant involvement. Involving tenants is part o…

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB IS A CONTINUING SUCCESS

Following a hugely successful trial-run of our after school club here at Fawdon Community Centre, we are pleased to announce it will now take place every week!

The sessions run every Tuesday, from 5pm to 6.30pm, at Fawdon Community Centre. The after school club is for children aged 8 to 11 years. They’ll take part in fun sports and games.

It’s just £1 each week, and 50p of that fee will go towards taking the children on a trip later in the year.

If you’d like any further information, please email Corrina Cothill [email protected] or call 0191 285 2724 and ask for Corrina.
