Moneywise Credit Union Since 1991, Moneywise has provided affordable loans and trusted savings accounts across the North East. As a Credit Union, we always put you over profit.

Our mission is to help you build your money confidence with community support and a friendly face. We provide savings and affordable loans to those who work or live in the North East of England. Started up in 1990 as a workplace Credit Union, we have since expanded and adapted to include anyone working or living in Tyne and Wear and County Durham and undergone a rebranding to the name Moneywise. In 2017 we merged with Tees Credit Union and now serve members across the North East.

💙 Happy International Credit Union Day! 💙

Today we’re celebrating the fantastic work credit unions do in communities across England, helping people save for the future and borrow safely.

We’re proud to work closely with credit unions to help reduce the risk of people turning to loan sharks.

Through our savings incentive schemes, we use money recovered from convicted loan sharks under the Proceeds of Crime Act to help people build their savings and improve their financial resilience.

And it’s making a real difference. Between April 2025 and April 2026:

✅ 1,853 members received a savings bonus
💷 More than £330,000 was saved at the three-month point
👏 The average savings balance was £180

A huge thank you to all the credit unions working with us to provide safe, affordable and ethical alternatives to illegal lenders.

The Festival of Social Science 2026 is nearly here! 😁

Moneywise is so excited to be part of this special event, taking place on 22 October in the Grainger Market.

Come along to engage with interactive exhibits, watch demonstrations, get involved with family-friendly activities and so much more!

The Moneywise team will be on hand to explore the theme of ‘Money, Finance and the Cost of Living’. We can’t wait to help our community build more money confidence.

A big thank you to Newcastle University and Northumbria University for putting together such a great event. See you there! 👋

Moneywise is a proud partner in the Thirteen Jobs Plus Project. 🙌

The project helps people in our local community access the right training and education so that they feel confident when applying for jobs. From helping with CVs and interview prep, to delivering one-to-one employment coaching and organising employer events, Jobs Plus provides support where it’s needed most.

We recently attended the Jobs Plus Showcase event at Newtown Resource Centre in Stockton, supporting the rollout of this important project across our area.

We’re excited to help even more people find work moving forwards. 💚
