Most people have heard of a Lasting Power of Attorney. Far fewer have actually got one. So, what is it?

An LPA is a legal document that lets you choose someone you trust to make decisions for you, if you ever lose the ability to make them yourself. That could be because of an accident, a serious illness, or conditions like dementia later in life.

There are two types:
📋 Property and Financial Affairs, for your money, your home and your bills.
💙 Health and Welfare, for your medical care, your treatment and where you live.

Without an LPA in place, even your closest family members might have no legal authority to step in and help. The only way to gain that authority is through the Court of Protection, which is slow, stressful and expensive.
