I have always felt strongly that 'made to order' is the way forward for the planet. By designing our own garments gives them longevity and a very special emotional connection which in turn reduces waste. Inspired by my daughter Lilly, who needed a fleece sleep suit to keep her warm at night, I set up the factory in 2009 making bespoke customised all-in-one onesies in the North East of England UK.
I had no previous experience in the textile industry but I did have a good knowledge of manufacture and systems and creating one-off items. This along with a good general knowledge of business and encouragement from my friends and family I took the plunge and have never looked back. I have since built an award winning, high performing team in mass customisation. Creating bespoke onesies in Ashington Northumberland that are sent worldwide. We are also proud members of The Guild of Master Craftsmen and Made in Britain. Each onesie is designed on our 3D Onesie builder and is unique. No two are the same. We do things differently with the aim to change the expectations of how we buy clothes. You design, we make, no mass production and no unsold items. We have supplied shows such as Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Big Brother, X-Factor, Britain's Next Top Model, CBBC, Family Fortunes, Comic Relief with unique Onesies for the shows. Each onesie is made to order here in UK. Now have over 60,000 customers from all around the world. We have donated onesies to charities including Macmillan, Newcastle Foundation, Race for Life and we regularly support baby banks and women's refuge charities such as Stripey Stork, Hartlepool Baby Bank, RBWA, Gloucestershire Bundles, County Durham Clothing bank with Onesies voluntarily made by our team from the off cuts of fabrics the end of roll fabrics are made into blankets. We support local schools and colleges with training, apprenticeships and off cut fabrics for fund raisers of local charities and education sector. I am an Enterprise Advisor for the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and encourage links with schools and business throughout the North East of England. I am proud to manufacture in the UK and to be able to support local and national charities to help make a difference and to change lives. Kate Dawson OBE
