Great news! The Bank of England has today announced a reduction to interest rates, the first cut to rates since March 2020.

This is likely because of the drop in inflation over the last few months.

People feel their personal finances are improving, according to new research released by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The regulator found the number of people struggling to pay bills fell by around 25% in January 2024 compared to January 2023.

7.4m people were struggling to pay bills and credit repayments in January 2024, down from 10.9m in January 2023. This is still higher than the 5.8m recorded in February 2020, before the cost of living squeeze began.

Tomorrow will see the reduction in National Insurance contributions kick in for workers across the UK.

The reduction will be from 10% to 8% and is the second cut of it's kind this year, expected to leave a little more money in the pocket of 27 million employees.

It is worth about £450 a year to an employee on an average salary of £35,000.
