In the chancellors budget this week he announced that inflation is tracking at 4.4%.

Yet even if interests rates climb, these will most likely not translate well into saving interest rates.

Therefore, if you have cash in the bank that is surplus to a good sized rainy day fund, your money is currently being degraded by the hidden tax of inflation every single month.

You need to put your surplus into an asset or investment that beats inflation.

In this example, you are losing out on £80 of growth per annum for a maximum potential interest of £200 on your 25k, but the bank would make it appear that your £120/yr (0.50% interest) is the best deal you could ever get.

Now, what is better? £120 per year? Or £2000/£3000 per year? You decide.
