Throughout what has undoubtedly been a challenging year, I have been struck by how the first tier of local government – England's 10,000 local (parish and town) councils – has provided stability and support to our communities.

Service disruption: Garden waste collections suspended from Monday 19 July

We are currently facing severe staff shortages and have made the difficult decision to suspend the garden waste collection service from Monday 19 July, for a minimum of 4 weeks.

We need to deploy staff to the most critical services, to ensure collections of general waste and recycling can continue.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to garden waste customers.

The staff shortages are due to our staff following the covid self-isolation rules, and the ongoing national HGV driver shortage affecting services across the country.

Garden waste customers will get a letter advising them of this within the next week; in the meantime, please help by sharing this information with those without internet access if you can.

For further advice on what will happen to your subscription and how you can dispose of your garden waste during the suspension period please see https://www.newforest.gov.uk/gardenwaste

The Town Council has now been informed that the long-awaited Referendum on the New Milton Neighbourhood Plan will take place on Thursday 6th of May.

This is an important date for New Milton because a majority vote would give residents the power to guide development in the town. Your Town Council will be working hard to reacquaint all sectors of our community on how the neighbourhood plan policies address the wishes expressed by our residents during the consultations that informed the development of the plan.

NFDC are working hard to make polling stations Covid safe for residents to vote in the upcoming elections on 6 May but there are other ways to vote! Please consider postal or proxy voting. Details on the NFDC website.

🗳️ Your voting options:

There are a number of ways to have your say in the scheduled elections in May, including voting in person at a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, known as a proxy vote.

We are making plans to ensure polling stations are safe places to vote but we expect demand for postal votes to be higher than usual. If you do wish to vote by post, please apply to us sooner rather than later.

Read more and download the application form at:
https://newforest.gov.uk/votebypost
and then post or email it back to us.

Over 20,000 people in the New Forest are already registered to cast their vote by post.
