Today is moving in day for more of my lovely First Time Buyers. I have been speaking with them over the last 18 months or so to make sure they are in a position to be able to apply for a mortgage.

This is important as one is recently self-employed, so I have been able to explain how lenders assess the income and what our options are so that when the time came to buy a house, they had all the information needed and were able to look for properties that were realistically in their price-range. And now here we are – keys in hand to a lovely new home!

I had an interesting afternoon last week.

The hot water pipe under the sink in our downstairs toilet burst and must have been running for half an hour or so. We were lucky because my wife came in and saw it before any damage was caused.

This week I have had lots of conversations with clients about making sure they have the right home insurance in place. Too often we're tempted to go for the cheapest because we think they're all pretty much the same right? Unfortunately, that's not the case. I'm lucky I didn't need to claim on my insurance, but I know that if I did, it would have paid out.

Please don't just take out an insurance policy because it's cheap - whether that's home insurance, life insurance, income protection or critical illness cover. Speak to an adviser to get proper advice and guidance and make sure your insurance is there for when you need it.
