This latest Community Art project comprising of 125 original works of art created by local people aged 4 to 86 years old has transformed three dilapidated and unused advertising boards on the side of Superdrug (next to Iceland on Market Street) into Marple's third Community Art Trail site. As with the first two, at Rose Hill Station and in Marple Memorial Park, it was the idea of local artist Tracy Mcguinness-Kelly of Art Stop Community Interest Company. As always, Tracy was supported by her husband Pete Kelly (Project Manager of Marple Men in Sheds) to bring this long-term dream into reality.

An exciting new project for Marple Town Centre.

Community Art Project calling for Vounteer artists.
Please get in touch if you are interested in submitting an idea for a permanent display aimed at brightening up the walkway in between Super Drug and iceland.

Dear Marple Artists of all ages and levels of expertise,

Permission has been granted to create artwork for the three redundant panels on the side of Superdrug next to Iceland on Market Street. This photo is an initial Mock up.

This is an initial call out for expressions of interest.
We are asking for local VOLUNTEER artists of all ages to create sketches with ideas all the images will be of something that celebrates Marple.
Past and present. Beautiful landmarks, history, nature etc
Something you love about Marple.

We want to see a variety of subjects and styles , techniques both traditional and contemporary.
The final display will look like a permanent outdoor gallery.

Art Stop CIC are working with the Marple Vision team and Stockport Council .
This project is very similar to the one in Marple Memorial Park on the pavilion building and also Rose Hill Train station car park.
Instead of circles we will be using rectangles and squares.an outdoor gallery made up of art work created by people of all ages in the community.
All of the schools have been invited to take part also.
Showcasing the amazing creativity that we have here in our community.

The images will all be painted with acrylic paints or Posca pans on 9mm plywood which will be provided to those people whose ideas will be part of the display.
Materials can also be provided to anyone who needs them.
Other mediums could work for outdoor such as permanent ink and oil paints.
Every piece of art will be then given special anti graffiti UV varnish to protect in the outdoors before installation.
There is a list of ideas already put forward by local people and we would like represented but of course you can also come up with your own ideas.
In order to balance the subject matter. We will be firstly asking for sketches and ideas to be submitted then there will be a selection process.
If two artists tackle the same subject then we may ask if one of them can do something else. Then they will be provided with a prepared panel and any materials they might require.
We will run a couple of workshops at Art stop studio in the Goyt Mill offering those who would like to work alongside other artists.
The final display will be installed by the end of March 2025.
If you are interested or can think of anyone who would be willing to be involved we can send out a more detailed brief and timeline etc. Here is a loose mock up pulled together with work from other projects to illustrate how it might look.
The sizes may be a bit big we are working on that now. There are limited spaces for the artwork.
When doing your sketch [preferably colour]
All art work will be on a rectangle [portrait or landscape] or square.

Hoping to hear from some of you soon,
Best regards

Art Stop CIC

We wish to make it clear to the local community that it is not Friends of the Park who have attacked this tree and caused criminal damage to it, nor was it the council. Furthermore, we strongly condemn the acts of vandalism carried out to it by persons unknown.
