Transfer values from gold-plated defined benefit (DB) pensions are at an all time high. Many have been tempted to swap a guaranteed income in the future (the defined benefit) in return for a large sum of money (the transfer value) now.

One problem is that the transfer value is no longer guaranteed whilst the future income through the DB scheme virtually is. How do you decide whether to take commit to this once-only decision, because there’s no turning back!
