A steady signal in a noisy world 📶

That’s the theme for today, and it suits us.

We began in 1996 with postal workers. Today we look after people across the postal, public transport and retail industries. Our services have moved with the times and we’re still modernising.

But the heart of what we do hasn’t changed at all: save and borrow straight from your pay, with a credit union that’s created by members, owned by members and run for their benefit.

That’s what steady means to us.

In the video, John talks about how we stay close to the communities we serve as we grow (including pulling a very heavy bus for them😉). He also shares what we’ve learned from credit unions in the US.

Guess where we were recently? Clue’s on the wall. 👀

Our Chief Strategy Officer, John Haslam, joined a roundtable with a Treasury minister and credit unions from across the UK.

One big topic was saving from your pay through auto enrolment. Think of how your workplace pension works, but for important, everyday savings.

We started in 1996 so postal workers could save straight from their wages. That’s still what we’re about, and it’s why we were glad to be in the room.

Prices in the shops, interest rates and the cost of living are out of our hands, and that's ok.

The bits that are yours to control can be small and quiet. Having a look at your balance. Making one choice at a time. Asking for help when you need it. That's plenty.

Here's September, from our own members.

🏠 Home improvements topped the list. Getting the house ready before the cold sets in makes sense to us.

✈️ Holiday season is winding down. Hope you've got another break booked to get away from the cold.

🔑 Buying a car. Getting yourself from A to B matters, and we're glad to help members do it.

🎄 Christmas sorted before Halloween. Well organised, that. We like to see it.

💙 Funeral costs. They can land at the worst of times. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

💍 Weddings and big occasions. Congratulations to everyone celebrating.

🧘 Debt consolidation. Sorting your finances takes a clear head, and that's never easy. Breath that sigh of relief.

🎓 Meet Eloise, a short-serving member of the marketing team.

Eloise spent last week with us gaining some work experience and threw herself into everything, including some early Christmas planning. 🎄 Yes, Christmas. In August. We're sorry too.

She brought fresh ideas, asked brilliant questions and got stuck in from day one. 💡 Watching someone from the next generation get what a credit union actually is, owned by members, run for members, not shareholders, is a pretty good sign of where this movement is heading.
