When I returned to education, I needed a chance to change my own life. I had no idea how many other lives I would eventually be part of changing.
I was going through a divorce, with a nine-month-old baby, facing bankruptcy and relying on Universal Credit. There were so many questions about the future that I simply couldn’t answer.
Education was one of the steps that helped me rebuild my confidence and independence. Gradually, I began to look beyond my immediate worries and think about what I could build.
Today, together with my team at AVG Education, we have supported more than 37,000 students from 27 nationalities. We have organised University Open Days, events and community initiatives that have helped and inspired thousands of people to explore a fresh start.
That same purpose led me to launch All Women Connect, a space where women from different countries can meet, learn from one another and support each other’s personal and professional growth. I have also facilitated English workshops for women who want to feel more confident speaking, expressing themselves and making their voices heard.
My story was featured in Global Woman Magazine as “From Cleaner to Leader”. I have been nominated for the Making a Difference Awards, invited to numerous events, and will soon be a guest speaker at the Global Woman Club event in Mayfair.
When I look at all of this, I think about the woman trying to start again with a baby in her arms. I wish she could have caught just a glimpse of what was ahead.
That is why I speak so often about education and finding the courage to begin again. I know how difficult it can be to take a step when you cannot yet see where it will lead.
