Buyers will look beyond the headline numbers, assessing everything from the strength of your management team to the sustainability of profits and potential risks within the business.

Identifying and addressing these areas before going to market can put you in a stronger position when it comes to negotiations.

And while early preparation is ideal, even a relatively short period of focused work can make a difference.

Employment law is changing.

The Employment Rights Act 2025 is being phased in across 2026 and 2027, with some changes already in force and further reforms still to come.

Changes already introduced include Statutory Sick Pay from day one, day-one paternity and unpaid parental leave rights, and stronger whistleblowing protection for those reporting sexual harassment.

Next on the agenda are further reforms covering areas including unfair dismissal, harassment, flexible working and zero-hours contracts.

For employers, preparation means knowing what has changed, what’s coming next and making sure policies, contracts, payroll processes, record keeping and manager guidance keep pace.

Acas has also highlighted the importance of training line managers and strengthening compliance systems as the reforms continue.

With changes coming into force at different stages, keeping on top of the timetable will be key.

The first Making Tax Digital deadline has passed, and HMRC is now taking the next step.

436,000 taxpayers submitted their first quarterly update by the 7th August deadline, with more than 570,000 signed up for MTD for Income Tax by 12th August.

That’s against HMRC’s previous estimate that around 864,000 taxpayers would need to join from April 2026.

HMRC have begun signing up taxpayers it believes should be using MTD for Income Tax but haven’t yet registered.

If you’re a sole trader or landlord with qualifying income above £50,000, MTD for Income Tax is now a legal requirement unless an exemption applies.

And, that’s not all, the threshold reduces to £30,000 from April 2027, so if you weren’t mandated in 2026, but will be in 2027, now is the time to prepare.

If you haven’t registered yet, or you receive a letter from HMRC, don’t leave it until the next deadline.

Our latest update covers what you need to know and what to do next.

A successful deal isn't just about agreeing a price.

When buying or selling a business, making sure both parties are aligned on the key commercial terms from the outset is just as important.

That's where heads of terms play an important role.

Getting these agreed early helps manage expectations, reduce the risk of disagreements further down the line and avoid unnecessary delays and costs.

Because the clearer the agreement at the beginning, the smoother the journey towards completion.

What does the financial health of the charity sector really look like?

We analysed the Charity Commission’s register to find out.

And behind the headline numbers is a sector with huge differences in scale, resources and financial resilience.

For trustees and charity leaders, that matters.

Because comparing your organisation with the ‘average charity’ can give you a very misleading picture of where you stand.

Our latest analysis looks at the financial landscape across charities in England and Wales, from income and reserves to changing audit thresholds and, importantly, what the numbers could mean for your organisation.

If you’re a trustee, finance leader or charity executive, take a look at the full report on our website.
It might change the way you benchmark your charity.
