LFIS Won!

Loughborough Finance & Investment Society is proud to announce that we have been awarded 'Most Improved Society' and 'Best Academic & Career Society' at the 2021/2022 LSU Society Awards.

This is testament to the dedication of our committee members as well as the excellent attendance, contribution and feedback from our 400+ members.

The LFIS member count this year was the largest of any LSU society in history, for which we are incredibly proud.

The new committee members (who will be announced shortly) look forward to building on this strong foundation into the next academic year.

Daniel McKegney will give us an insight into a sub-division of private equity and will provide a complete overview of real estate private equity and the role of a Senior Associate at Heitman. Daniel will share insights on Heitman and its place in the industry, the skills required for his role, conduct a deal process overview and career advice to secure successful internships within this industry.

We are very excited to announce our new sponsor, Finco Money!

We are so happy to be working together to bridge the gap between finance and personal finances.

Join us on Tuesday the 9th of November IN PERSON in EHB.001 for an overview of investment banking.

Theo Jewitt from Morgan Stanley and Damola Ayeni from Société Générale will be coming from London to share insights into their roles and careers. They are both recent Loughborough graduates so they will be able to provide up to date career advice. They now work in very interesting yet completely different roles within investment banking: Corporate Broking and Leveraged Finance.

This event will be OPEN TO EVERYONE, so please feel free to invite anyone that might be interested!

Dumitru is a strategist (researcher in the Sales & Trading division) with a focus on FX (Foreign Exchange, i.e., currencies), rates (interest rates, government bonds, etc), and Credit (credit situation, credit risk, etc).

He covers the CEEMEA region (Central and Eastern Europe Middle East and Africa), and he is in contact with several high-ranking government officials of some of the countries he covers.

We are excited to announce our first Private Equity event of this year!

On Thursday 21st October, 6pm, we will be hosting our virtual Introduction to Private Equity Event.

At LFIS, we are committed to recognizing role models and Inspiring Women working across various areas of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Industry, we introduce Andrea Davis who operates in a value creation role. We also encourage everyone who is interested in Women in Finance to attend this event to learn more about the opportunities available.

This event will introduce members to the journey of a professional PE investor and will provide a complete overview of the role of a PE investor. Andrea has had experience leading businesses that were PE-backed and is now the Managing Director and leads the Operating Group for Investcorp’s European Private Equity business. She will share insights into the industry and advice to secure a successful Spring and Summer internship within Private Equity. We will have a dedicated Q/A session, so come prepared with questions!

Tuesday 19th October, 6pm.

James Daly from Morgan Stanley will be joining us to introduce the world of Sales & Trading. After graduating from Loughborough, James decided to pursue a placement instead of a graduate role, although this is an unusual route, it might be one worth considering if your goal is to join a top firm.

He works in prime brokerage, which is an interesting yet not so talked about part of Sales & Trading. Prime brokers provide a variety of services to hedge funds and therefore play a key role in the financial services ecosystem.

James has just been through the recruitment process, so he will be able to share key tips on how to approach applications and succeed in interviews – make sure to ask him any questions you might have related to your own applications, or to his role.
