Following on in our meet the team series, we’d like to introduce Ozanne, Co-Founder & our busy CTO
Q. Mike, tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up on the island of Guernsey and, having just turned 50, I was part of what is now called Generation X. We were the generation that grew up with one foot in the analogue world and one in the digital world. My first interactions with technology came in the form of a BBC Microcomputer. For me, that was the start of everything. I would type in games from magazines, line by line and get to play with things I had created. Looking back, it ultimately set me on the path which became my career. However, anyone who remembers that era will also remember the frustration. At a young age, I recall spending hours trying to find mistakes in the code. There was no AI to do it for me and no Google to find the solution. I learnt to problem-solve, to be patient, to test, to fix, and to keep going until it worked.
Q. How did that shape your view of banking and technology?
The world I grew up in was one where technology was exciting, but life was still very personal. You went into your local bank branch to pay in your pocket money, save it, and then withdraw it when you had enough for the latest toy. Your family knew the people behind the counter. There was conversation, familiarity and trust. We now live and work in a world where almost everything can be done instantly, digitally and remotely. That brings huge benefits…, but it can also make services feel more distant. Banking is a good example of that. The technology has improved enormously, but for many people the relationship has disappeared.
Q. What attracted you to Banxlocal?
I’ve spent over 20 years building core banking systems, leading technology teams and helping financial services businesses modernise - safely. A lot of my career has been spent where banking, technology, risk and service all meet. That has taught me that technology in banking is never just about systems, apps or infrastructure. It is about trust.
- Trust that your money is safe.
- Trust that systems work when you need them.
- Trust that innovation is being delivered responsibly.
- And trust that there is a team behind it who genuinely care about their customers.
Over the years, I’ve learnt that the best technology is the kind people do not have to worry about. It works, it is secure, and it gives customers and colleagues confidence. That is the kind of platform we are building banxlocal on. We are not trying to turn the clock back. We are building something new, a model that combines modern technology including AI, with proper governance, security and human service.
Q. What are you most excited about?
I’m excited by the chance to use the latest technologies to bring banking closer to customers, closer to communities and closer to the High Street. Technology should not remove the human side of banking. Used properly, it should make service better, safer and more accessible.
That is what we are building with banxlocal. Over 260,000 lines of code and counting!
Trust. Security. Innovation. + Local Service.
