Dalston Comic Club

Dalston Comic Club (Excluding Bank Holidays) We've built a collective through the regular meet up and after most sessions we carry on the banter in the local.

Dalston Comic (creators) Club, is a free monthly meetup for adults who make comics, or are interested in starting, hosted on the last Monday of every month at Dalston CLR James Library. The mission of the Dalston Comic (creators) Club, is to provide an environment that fosters creativity and an open community, where every session can be someone first, where attendees learn from each other, in orde

r to develop their sequential narrative skills. There’s been loads of amazing stuff happening at Dalston Comic (creators) Club over the last four years, but in the mix of just doing it, we haven’t been very good about shouting from the rooftops to let people know who we are or what we do, but we're working on it and hopefully this will help you a bit. Here are some of the things we have explored in our sessions so:

1: Four panel challenge - Introduction / Situation / Reaction / Conclusion.
2: Mise en scène - Object / Character / Environment / Era / Genre / Transition.
3: Audio translation - Explore an excerpt from a radio short story via sequential images.

For the October month session, we learnt about exquisite corpse. This session was taught by Elizabeth. She explained various examples of how exquisite corpse were created by different artists.

For the first ten minutes everyone had to draw part of a body of a exquisite corpse. The results were amazing.

For the remainder of the session, everyone was given cards which were created by a seven year old. These cards were introductions of eight different stories.

The task given was the same exquisite corpse exercise but with everyone drawing each panel. Once again the results were amazing.

Here are the photos of the results of what everyone done.

September's Session was about creating a splash page for a comic. The session was held by Pea. She explained that a splash page can convey what is likely to unfold in a plot of the comic. It can also leave you clues to what the comic is about. The task that was set was to create six splash pages and then discuss with the group which was the best. The chosen image was then drawn for the comic. The photos shown below are what the group have created.
