The average 10-year-old owns 238 toys. They regularly play with 12 of them.

Meanwhile, billions of pounds are spent on children’s gifts every year and yet the generation we’re buying all these toys for face more financial barriers than ever before.

That disconnect drove our CEO Sophia Jarvis, mum of twins and award-winning family wealth manager, to build something different.

Sophia recently spoke at the event on why she started Mia and this is the message at the heart of it.

Mia makes investing in a child’s future as simple as ordering a toy online. Buy an investment into their future, add a personal message, and it’s wrapped up and delivered to them when they turn 18.

Because maybe the best gift you can give a child isn’t something they’ll grow out of.

And hey, we’re not saying ditch the toys entirely. Even if we halved the number bought, the average 10-year-old would still have 119 to play with! Sometimes one less toy is all it takes.

Most parents worry about this. If you’re one of them, don’t be so hard on yourself! You’re already doing something right - you’ve started... and that can be the hardest step.

Mia’s visualisation tool lets you see what their account could grow to by the time they turn 18, so less is left to guesswork. (Subject to market performance)

They say a worry shared is a worry halved. We think it’s the same with your child’s financial future. Share a simple gifting link with family and friends and let the people who love your child be part of their future too.

Money can feel like something we’re all meant to just understand. But for so many of us, it’s actually something we’re learning as we go.

This post is a reminder that you don’t need to have everything figured out to feel more confident with money. Small steps count, simple plans help, and starting matters more than doing it perfectly.

Mia Wealth was proud to have our CEO and co-founder, invited to speak at event: “How to have a baby and not go broke.” And judging by the turnout it’s clear just how many parents are craving practical and judgement-free support when it comes to money and family life.

A huge thank you to Nugget’s founders Katie and Harriet for hosting such a thoughtful, well-attended evening and to fellow panellists and for bringing so much expertise (and real-world perspective) to the discussion.

Every Easter the UK spends on average ÂŁ56 per child. (Goodtoknow 2025)

So what if you invested that amount in their future?

We’re not saying no treats for Easter... we are only illustrating how chocolate eggs could turn into a nest egg for your child’s financial future.

Feeling pressure to be “on it” all the time doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
It usually means you’re carrying more than one person was ever meant to hold.
You don't need to have it all figured out before you start. Just starting brings its own kind of relief.

Take it from us. None of us are perfect, you’re doing your best and that’s worth celebrating.

Ever bought something at 3am and wondered what version of you made that decision?

We’ve all been there.

Two different stories, same feeling. One of us scrolling Instagram after a night feed, buying cheap clothes that didn’t last. The other holding onto beautiful heels that no longer fit. Not because they’re useful, but because letting go feels harder than it should. Almost like fully letting go of your past self.

We can’t help your midnight shopping habits. But we are building something to support families when the quiet worries show up - the kind that sit alongside everything else you’re already carrying. Thoughts about your child’s future, half-formed and unfinished, when your to-do list already feels too long.

Christenings (and birthdays and Christmas… can we mention Christmas yet?!) often come with the same quiet question: what’s actually useful to gift a child?

This isn’t about saying no to toys. There’s room for joy, noise and things you end up stepping on at 6am.
It’s not about a big gesture. It’s about having a place where small amounts can land over time — from parents, grandparents, friends — without it all sitting with you, or anyone needing to be the hero.

Mia lets you share a simple link with family and friends, so contributions can happen gradually, in the background, over time. And if someone wants to bring a noisy toy as well, we’re not saying no to that either.
