Our Chair was invited to the Non-Executive Director Awards at last week. The NED Awards celebrate two decades of strong governance, dedicated stewardship, and unwavering integrity and honour outstanding non-executive directors and Chairs across UK business and not-for-profit sectors. After 20+ years in financial services, many senior bankers start asking the same question:

“What comes after my executive career?”

One of the fastest growing opportunities today is serving as a Non-Executive Director, Advisor or Fractional CXO in fintech companies.

Fintech boards are actively looking for experienced professionals with backgrounds in:

• banking
• risk & compliance
• payments
• capital markets
• asset management
• insurance

Going overground: London’s next Fintech Leap” was the title of our Panel at SXSW London showcasing outstanding fintech leaders whose hard work, creativity & passion and ability to execute has created globally successful fintech companies. Our CEO moderated the panel with:

* Mark Lenhard CEO Zepz
* Peter Briffett CEO & Co-Founder Wagestream
* Harriet Rees Rees, CIO Starling Bank
* Sean Hederman CTO Zilch

We learned more about new technologies (including AI & cybersecurity), new product launches in 2025 and the strong purpose of each company:

* Zepz, a global leader in remittance payments, whose WorldRemit and Sendwave brands send money to 130 countries across 5,000 corridors
* Wagestream, helping employees manage their finances by allowing them to access their wages in real-time before payday
* Starling Bank, Britain’s first digital bank for personal and business accounts and their Engine platform which can be licensed by international banks
* Zilch offering a credit card and flexible payment options to split purchases into installments or pay immediately with a chance to earn rewards

We also discussed how the UK can continue to be a leading fintech nation and the power of our strong and diverse fintech ecosystem which we represented ourselves on stage with Mark coming from the USA, Sean from South Africa and I from Austria. So diversity of thought is key combined with the capital to successfully grow companies globally.

SXSW is an annual conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of music, film, interactive media, and tech. The event, which started in Austin, Texas in 1987, has grown to become a global cultural movement. SXSW London campus stretched across 25+ venues in Shoreditch and was lots of inspiration!
