🐶 Wales is a nation of dog lovers, but is it also increasingly becoming a nation of dog entrepreneurs?

Almost 1 in 20 Start Up Loans supporting Welsh entrepreneurs so far in 2026 have gone to businesses operating in the growing dog economy.

From grooming and daycare to specialist products and services, entrepreneurs across Wales are finding new ways to turn their passion for dogs into a business.

One of them is Pawfectly Clean Cymru.

After spotting a problem familiar to many dog owners, muddy, soaking wet dogs after a walk, founders Josienne and Michael Hoover launched self-service dog wash stations at popular walking spots across Wales.

💷 A Start Up Loan helped them expand beyond their first site, opening second and third locations, with ambitions to continue growing across Wales.

🍺📞 During lockdown, Saul Press started delivering b**r around Norwich by bike.

What started as a way to help pubs sell excess stock soon became the UK's "smallest off-licence", operating from a disused telephone box.

With two Start Up Loans and support from , Saul went on to open **rhatch, his own craft b**r shop and bar in the heart of Norwich.

Earlier this week, we visited to hear from founder Yandis Ying about the business she’s building in London.

Dot Dot Tea started as a small bubble tea café and is now a premium brand with its own brewery, stocked by major retailers.

💬 Yandis shared what she hopes Dot Dot Tea can become:

“I’d love Dot Dot to become an example of what a London SME can become: starting small, creating local opportunities, developing young talent, manufacturing in London, and ultimately growing to national and global scale.”
