A total solar eclipse will be sweeping across the skies on 12th August 2026, and will be visible from parts of northern Spain, the Balearic Islands, southwestern Iceland and across the Atlantic. βοΈ π
This rare celestial event only happens around once a year somewhere in the world, but hasn't been seen across Spain since 1905!
If you're planning on travelling in your motorhome or campervan to see the total solar eclipse, here are the best places to visit π π:
ποΈ Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain β The eclipse will start at 7:38pm, reach totality at 8:31pm, and end at 8:49pm. The eclipse can be seen across the whole island, as well as across the Balearic Islands, including Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, making it an ideal and idyllic place to experience this event.
π ReykjavΓk, Iceland β If you want to witness the eclipse in a place renowned for its beautiful cosmic events, the solar eclipse will be visible from ReykjavΓk, starting at 4:45pm, reaching totality at around 5:48pm, and finishing at 6:47pm.
π° Zaragoza, Spain β If you're looking for a charming and quieter eclipse-watching experience, Zaragoza is the perfect location with it being central to the path of totality. The eclipse here will start at 7:33pm, reach totality at 8:29pm, and conclude at 9:07pm.
π Valencia, Spain β If you want to experience the event in mainland Spain while staying in a lively, vibrant city with plenty of culture and things to do, Valencia is a great choice. The eclipse will begin at 7:38pm, reach totality at 8:33pm, and end at 9:01pm.
If you're in the UK, whilst you won't be able to see a total solar eclipse, much of the country will still witness a deep partial solar eclipse, with up to 95% of the Sun being covered. The event will occur between around 6pm and 8pm, depending on your location.
Finally, wherever you're watching from, make sure you use certified ISO solar eclipse glasses or filters (regular sunglasses will not do!), as looking directly at the Sun without proper eye protection can cause permanent eye damage.
