Included was one role where John reported directly to Steve Jobs. While leading the NeXT team at IBM, John met a 19 year old who, as a LinkedIn co-founder, Eric asked John to beta test the new online service. Other notable people and technologies where part of the era so there are stories to share. Having worked at NeXT, Swiss Bank Corp (SBC) recruited John to its London office in 1994. After a reverse takeover SBC rebranded itself UBS. John’s work included leading global teams in all the financial centers. John’s property career started in late 1983 or early 1984. After reading a book John attended an evening meeting in San Jose CA where those who showed up received a free cassette tape. A weekend course titled “Nothing Down” was offered which John attended a few days later in San Francisco. On day two, Sunday, John decided to go into work late on Monday so he could visit a local real estate sales office. By that afternoon, John had purchased a detached house for nothing down using what he had learned over the prior 48 hours. Today, John is a multi-national landlord with property from Bradford to Hawaii; 11 timezones and two oceans. At present John is leading an effort to launch an UK based, HMRC approved, Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). In other words watch this space in later 2013.
