Twenty years of tracking gender parity has produced progress. But at the current pace, the world is still an estimated 120 years away from full gender parity.

The World Economic Forum’s 2026 Global Gender Gap Report looks back at two decades of data across economic participation, education, health and political empowerment.

Some of the findings are striking:

• The global gender gap is now 69.2% closed
• No economy has yet reached full parity
• Economic Participation and Opportunity sits at just 61.7%
• At the current pace, economic parity is still 129 years away
• Several lower-income economies outperform higher-income peers, showing that income level alone does not determine progress

The report is worth reading and considering the implications.
