Local Green Points Local Green Points The Local Green Points scheme's primary objective is to increase landfill diversion.

We work with local authorities and key local partners to provide a range of incentives to stimulate a shift in behaviour. For residents, Local Green Points is an opt-out scheme meaning that the value of rewards is calculated on an average per household basis across the entire area taking part, although residents do need to register in order to redeem their rewards. The scheme has a very strong com

munity focus and develops close working partnerships with local organisations at a participatory and beneficiary level. A percentage of the reward values accrued each quarter goes to local community projects (residents are presented with a choice of three and they choose which group benefits in that quarter). Research recently undertaken revealed that rewarding community initiatives was the preferred option compared to individual household rewards. Local Green Points has been designed to provide an adaptive, flexible and sustainable scheme that fits with the financial and operational structure of existing council services.

I Sweden this week. Recycling here is so efficient. All supermarkets, even the small local shops have reverse vending machines that everybody seems all too willing to use. Mind you, they've been doing it for 40 plus years so guess they should have got it right by now!
