‘Drug driving’ isn’t all about illegal substances. You could still be breaking the law while on legal medications if they interfere with your ability to drive safely.
🚫💊🚘
As you’d expect, the punishments are hefty - with a year ban being the minimum penalty.
So, you need to talk to your doctor if you take any of the following:
🟣 Amphetamine, for example dexamphetamine or selegiline.
🟣 Clonazepam.
🟣 Diazepam.
🟣 Flunitrazepam.
🟣 Lorazepam.
🟣 Methadone.
🟣 Morphine or op**te and opioid-based drugs, for example codeine, tramadol or fentanyl.
🟣 Oxazepam.
🟣 Temazepam.

(Be aware that laws differ in Northern Ireland, but you can still arrested in your unfit to drive).

It's illegal to drive if you're unfit to do so because you're on legal or illegal drugs, or you have certain levels of drugs or medicine in your blood

We’ve all been there - there are signs to show that there’s a lane closure up ahead. Some people immediately switch over to the lane that’ll stay open, forming a queue. Some wait until they get to the closure and hope to be allowed to merge (although people won’t always let them).
🛑🛑🛑
People have different views on this, but according to the Highway Code, who’s in the right?
❓❓❓
Well, as long as the traffic is slow moving, it’s actually those who wait until they reach the closure. Rule 134 says:

“You should follow the signs and road markings and get into the lane as directed. In congested road conditions do not change lanes unnecessarily. Merging in turn is recommended but only if safe and appropriate when vehicles are travelling at a very low speed, e.g. when approaching road works or a road traffic incident. It is not recommended at high speed.”

So there you have it. In slow conditions, people looking to merge at the end of the closed lane aren’t ‘jumping the queue’, but actually following the rule of the road. So next time you find yourself in that situation, be sure not to block other drivers from ‘zipper merging’.

Many areas of the UK are now blanketed in snow. It's quite picturesque, but potentially risky to drive in. Here are some things to keep in mind:

❄️ Check for Met Office updates on weather warnings.
❄️ Remember: in icy conditions, stopping distances can be up to 10x longer.
❄️ Pack an emergency kit (including a torch and a phone charger).
❄️ Before setting off, check your tyres and make sure your lights are fully functional.
❄️ Keep fuel topped up - just in case.
❄️ Be prepared to cancel plans if driving isn't safe.
