In the world of businesswomen, we often encourage the idea of not accepting "no," but today we want to talk about the importance of learning to use our own "no."
According to a survey, 53% of women report higher stress levels than a year ago, with almost half feeling burnt out. One-third have even taken time off work due to mental health challenges. Meanwhile, more than one-third of women rate their ability to switch off from work as poor/very poor, indicating an "always on" culture.
As women in business, we may feel like we need to prove ourselves, unintentionally leading us to avoid saying "no" and taking time for ourselves. However, at WealthiHer, we encourage open conversation about workload and support each other in saying "no" when we need to. Rest is essential for maintaining our health, restoring our minds, and increasing productivity in the long run. Without adequate rest, we face an increased risk of many diseases and disorders, from heart disease and stroke to obesity and dementia.
Safeguard yourself by replying with something like, "Unfortunately, I have no space in my schedule this week, but I can get that done for you by X next week." Learning to juggle workload is a skill, especially for those who are also mothers, wives, or juggling multiple businesses. Don't see "no" as a negative word.
Remember, if we want to be at our best, we need to prioritise rest.
