A dog who suddenly refuses to jump, use the stairs or be picked up isn’t being difficult. They might actually be in pain.

IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) begins with fairly subtle changes, then becomes serious very quickly. That’s why knowing what to look for matters.

At Waggel, we believe that understanding time-sensitive conditions can help you act quickly and make informed decisions about your pet’s care.

As pet owners ourselves, we wish unexpected treatment were never part of the picture, but being prepared can make a difficult moment easier.

Meet Chipstick - a rescue cat from and our August Waggeler of The Month.

Despite being known to some as slightly ‘fierce’ she’s often found cuddling up on her owner’s lap and stealing food from children (we can’t blame her tbh, she’s a cat who knows her own mind).

According to her owner, Grace, she went through a phase of stealing food from neighbours’ barbecues, though last time we checked, this certainly isn’t a crime.

Though she is a true food-obsessed tuxedo cat, she’s the love of Grace’s life and she wouldn’t have it any other way, “I always say I’m so glad we got her because no one would love her as much as we do (she's crazy!)”

Meet July’s Waggeler of The Month: Tufts 🐾

Tufts got her name because when she was found as a stray, she was covered in little tufts of matted fur. She arrived at her human (Millie’s) workplace, where they instantly fell in love. After two weeks of calling the kennels to check on her, Tufts finally came home with Millie for good. ❤️

Now she's the sweetest dog you could hope to meet. She loves everyone, and whenever she gets excited, she zooms off to find a toy before proudly bringing it back and shaking her whole body like a little snake.

Her favourite pastime? Squeaking every toy she can get her paws on, especially her fluffy frog.

Her breed is still a mystery while they wait for her DNA results (a Yorkie mix is the current guess!), but one thing's for certain: she's 100% lovable.

And if you've got McDonald's fries...don't expect to keep them for long. 🍟

When it comes to dogs, Emma’s motto is simple: the bigger, the better. At home, she’s kept on her toes by Lucy, her 34kg rescue who’s a Belgian Malinois × Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Outside of work, you’ll usually find Emma at the beach, where she’s guaranteed to make friends with every animal she meets.

This Pride, we wanted to celebrate the people, pets and communities that make life brighter.

That's why we partnered with 's Dog Show to bring our 2026 Pride campaign to life.

Together, we created More Love; an in-house zine exploring chosen family, community and the special bond between LGBTQ+ people and their pets.

We were so excited to share copies with attendees throughout the day and see it in so many hands. As well as our zine, we also designed exclusive Pride tote bags for the first-place winners, filled with treats from our wonderful partners and .

A huge thank you to everyone who said hello, entered the dog show, picked up a zine and helped make the day so special.

And to Bristol Pride, thank you for creating such a joyful, inclusive celebration, we're proud to have been part of it.

Happy Pride. Here's to more love, less stress, always. 🏳️‍🌈

June's Waggeler of the Month is the one and only Milady. 🩷

With her striking blue eyes, cloud-like winter coat and travelling stories that would make most humans jealous, this adventurous Ragdoll has explored cities across Scotland and England from the comfort of her family's trailer.

Milady joined her family when she was just one year old after being rehomed. Since then, she's become a cherished companion and a source of comfort, support and unconditional love.

According to her owner, Iryna, one of her most memorable adventures took place in St Andrews, where she confidently strolled through a park on her lead, completely unfazed by a dog meet-up taking place at the same time.

Back at home, she's currently perfecting her goalkeeping skills, batting a paper ball back and forth with impressive precision.

Heatstroke can affect dogs and cats far more quickly than many people realise.

Our new data showed a 173% increase in heatstroke cases and a 440% increase in dehydration cases, highlighting just how important summer pet safety has become.

Knowing the signs, understanding which pets are most at risk, and acting quickly could save a life.

For many renters, pet ownership has felt out of reach. The Renters' Rights Act aims to change that by making it harder for landlords to enforce blanket "no pets" policies and giving tenants the right to request permission to keep a pet.

While landlords can still refuse requests where there is a legitimate reason, the changes create a fairer process for renters who have previously struggled to find pet-friendly accommodation. And we're already seeing signs of change.

Since the legislation came into effect, Waggel has recorded a 26% increase in new pet insurance policies, alongside more than 20,000 additional quote requests in May alone.

It suggests that many prospective pet owners may have been waiting for the confidence that they could keep a pet without risking their tenancy.

Whether you're a renter dreaming of a dog, a cat lover searching for a pet-friendly home, or a landlord navigating the new rules, these changes could have a lasting impact on the future of pet ownership in the UK.
