“In a world where valuation debates are intense and currency dynamics are shifting, diversification is more important than ever,” says Manpreet Gill, Chief Investment Officer for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, who, in a recent conversation, highlighted the evolving global landscape and its impact on markets worldwide.

From rising opportunities in equities to stronger income potential in emerging-market bonds, he suggested that this year could reward investors who stay balanced, globally minded, and adaptable.

How can capital flow more efficiently to where it drives real emissions reduction?

Our team in Vietnam recently structured a cross‑border transaction that supports the development and distribution of high‑integrity carbon credits - connecting global demand with project delivery in ASEAN.

The transaction enables Sustainability Investment Promotion and Development JSC (SIPCO) to trade carbon credits across borders, directing capital towards verified projects in Laos and Cambodia, including clean cookstoves and water purification.

The credits meet internationally-recognised standards and are eligible under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s carbon offsetting framework - providing a mechanism for sectors like aviation to address emissions that cannot yet be reduced directly.

This is a practical example of how cross‑border financial expertise can help scale carbon markets - linking global investors with credible, locally delivered climate solutions.

We’re committed to catalysing innovative finance where it matters most, supporting our clients in ASEAN and across our markets to achieve inclusive, low-carbon growth.

Introducing an important milestone for Standard Chartered’s sustainable finance journey.

We have officially issued our inaugural HKD2 billion Green Wonton Bond. This represents the very first Green Wonton Bond to be issued by a FIG issuer, and the largest-ever HKD issuance of its kind.

This success marks our sixth sustainable finance issuance, helping further our ambition to deliver sustainable, inclusive growth for our markets.

Mary Huen, CEO, Hong Kong and Greater China & North Asia, Standard Chartered, states: "Our inaugural HKD Green Wonton Bond marks an important milestone for Standard Chartered as we continue to expand our sustainable finance capabilities and connect clients and investors to high-quality green assets. It also highlights the growing appeal of HKD-denominated assets to international investors and reinforces Hong Kong’s role as a super-connector for capital into the region."

This Eid Al Adha, we take a moment to reflect on what true wealth means. On the ambitions that shape our journeys and the opportunities that bring them to life.

Because wealth is not only measured in numbers, but in the lives we build and the communities we support.

Eid Mubarak from all of us.

As digital money and new payment infrastructure scale, banks that act as trusted super‑connectors will capture an outsized share of value.

At our Investor Event yesterday, we shared how we’re connecting traditional finance and the emerging digital economy through our digital asset capabilities.

Digital assets are driving structural shifts across financial markets. We offer a broad ecosystem of solutions for our clients, alongside strategic investments through SC Ventures, including:

• Institutional custody of crypto and tokenised assets, and institutional trading of crypto and brokerage capabilities, delivered through Corporate & Investment Banking, with Zodia Custody and Zodia Markets
• Tokenisation of real-world assets and digital money, delivered through CIB, Libeara and Anchorpoint
• Individual client access to cryptocurrency trading and ETFs delivered by WRB and through Mox

Through a bank-grade framework, our clients can access, transact and safely hold digital assets, deepening relationships and driving wallet share.

Cultural diversity is not only something to celebrate, but something that strengthens how we work, grow and deliver for our clients.

While World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was marked yesterday, its importance goes far beyond a single day. It is a moment to reflect on why it matters – because it broadens perspectives, deepens understanding and builds trust faster, helping us to work more effectively across borders and show up for clients in ways that are relevant to them.

When we understand context and adapt well, we reduce friction, connect global strengths with local insights, and turn our network into a stronger advantage for our clients, colleagues and communities.

Our Heritage Colleague Community members discuss the impact it has had for them:

Fraud is evolving fast. Staying ahead requires constant awareness and collective action.

At Standard Chartered, more than 4,600 colleagues recently took part in a global fraud awareness initiative, strengthening how we spot scams, challenge deceptive behaviour and protect our clients.

Across expert-led sessions and real-world scenarios, one message was clear: fraud prevention is everyone’s responsibility. It’s part of our broader focus on building a strong, security-first culture - where vigilance, knowledge, and shared accountability are embedded across the Bank.

Together, we’re stronger against fraud.

Climate risk is no longer a niche concept, it’s a business priority for boards and executives.

In the latest episode of our Studio Sessions video podcast, Dr Linda Yueh, CBE (an Independent Non-Executive Director at Standard Chartered) and Professor Nicola Ranger (Executive Director at Earth Capital Nexus and Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science) discuss why adaptation and resilience are becoming essential leadership priorities as extreme weather risks intensify.

From supply‑chain disruption to the role of capital in driving nature‑positive solutions, the conversation explores how leaders can embed adaptation into everyday decision‑making — reducing risk while unlocking new investable opportunities.

How are we compounding the strength of our differentiated network and product capabilities to drive the next phase of our growth?

At this week's Investor Event in Hong Kong, we outlined our sustainable growth plan, focused on supporting corporate, institutional and affluent clients where international activity is fast growing, complexity is high and our network creates the greatest value.

Across Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), we’re leveraging our unique global network to support clients through shifts in supply chains and capital flows – investing in higher‑returning areas like the financial Institutions segment and consolidating leadership in RMB, Sustainable Finance and Islamic Finance.

Roberto Hoornweg, our CEO, CIB, told attendees: "Clients value our ability to originate and transform risk through our markets and banking teams, and how the transaction services business can facilitate the seamless movement of cash, trade and custody around the global network."

Across Wealth & Retail Banking (WRB), we’re doubling down on Affluent – accelerating the timeline of our ambitions across net new money, Wealth income and Affluent income share, and investing where we have scale and a distinctive client proposition.

Speaking at the event, Judy Hsu, our CEO, WRB, said: "Our growth is built on a scalable and a durable engine, enabling us to capture the changing needs of our clients. In Asia, wealth is growing at a much faster pace than the global average, creating a larger base of Affluent clients."

At our Investor Event today, we set out how we are building the leading super‑connector institution for sophisticated clients, as the world becomes more connected, more complex, and more cross-border.

Having achieved our 2026 financial targets a year early, Group Chief Executive Bill Winters and Interim Group Chief Financial Officer Manus Costello outlined new medium-term targets, including building to a RoTE of ~18% in 2030.

At Standard Chartered, we're investing behind long‑term trends to maintain strong growth, boost productivity, further improve the quality of earnings, and maximise our competitive advantages.
