🚀 Congratulations to our portfolio company EBAC on being featured in the 2023 Latin America EdTech 100!

Curated annually by Holon IQ, the Latin American EdTech 100 list highlights the most promising startups in the sector from the region.

📌 EBAC (British School of Creative Arts and Technology) is an online educational centre providing courses in IT and Digital fields, with a presence in Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Colombia. Notably, EBAC has secured a place on this prestigious list by HolonIQ for the third consecutive year (since 2021!). Well done!

Some great news to share about one of the Alumni of the Big Tech Companies (BTC) disrupting the field.

📌 What is it about?
• Exactly.ai is a platform for professional creators to train their personal AI models and create images in their unique style.

📌 What’s happening?
• Exactly.ai partnered with Google at the prominent conference, Slush. "Beauty in Transition: Redefining Aesthetics for Tomorrow" featured AI models created by 11 artists and was showcased at the Google booth during the event.

💼 Fundraising
• Exactly.ai has just graduated from Google for Startups EU Accelerator: AI and has already secured the top-tier lead investor. They are closing the Seed round right now so do reach out to us GuruDev Capital, Dina Karakash, or the Founder Tonia Samsonova.

👉 BTW Exactly.ai has been the only startup in 2023 cohort offered to make a product demo at Google booth during Slush.

Sequoia’s short-listed startups: how many of Big Tech Companies Alumni are there?

As a fund focused on investing in Alumni of Big Tech Companies (BTC), we were intrigued to explore the prevalence of BTC Alumni among Sequoia Capital’s short-listed . If you haven’t read the article ‘Generative AI’s Act Two’ by Sequoia have a look at it first (link in the comments).

Main findings of our analysis:

1️⃣ 74% of Sequoia's short-listed startups have at least one BTC alumnus, with Infrastructure startups leading the charge at 84%.

👉 This strong representation of BTC alumni aligns with market data suggesting that around 80% of successful startups have at least one BTC alumnus involved. This phenomenon can be partially attributed to the network effect and the power of the BTC brand, which instills confidence in clients and investors.

2️⃣ Among BTC alumni founders, Google alumni (Xoogler) emerged as the most dominant group, followed by Meta, Microsoft (Microsoft Alumni Network - Official), and Amazon.com. Notably, Netflix is the only MANGA company absent from this list of founders.
