The Bank of England expects food inflation to rise towards the end of the year, to just under 3%. But that doesn't mean your food shop will suddenly cost 3% more.
Inflation measures how much prices have risen compared with a year earlier.
For example, if your Christmas food shop was £100 in December 2025, and food prices are expected to be 3% higher by December 2026, that same shop could cost around £103.
But this is only a guide.
Not all food prices rise or fall at the same time, and some items may even become cheaper.
Have you noticed your food shop costing more since the start of the year? 🤔💬
