Most founders are solving a problem they read about in a report. Alistair Wilson survived his.
Sepsis kills more people every year than cancer, heart disease or strokes. 50 million people develop it, 11 million die, and it can start with something as ordinary as a scratch or a sore throat before turning fatal within hours.
Here is the frustrating part. It is treatable when it is caught early. But around 80% of cases begin in the community, where no point-of-need test exists, so clinicians are asked to make the call without any diagnostic clarity. Patients get admitted just in case. Antibiotics get prescribed just in case. People die who did not need to.
Septest built the test that closes that gap. TRISEP needs one drop of blood, no lab and no equipment, and in 15 minutes it tells a clinician whether an infection is bacterial, viral or fungal, and how severe it is.
We were proud to support Septest on their ÂŁ1m raise, with ÂŁ300k coming from the FundMyPitch investor network.
What they have done since is the part worth knowing. A ÂŁ1.2m NIHR grant covering the remaining development and validation. A clinical study at the Royal Free Hospital. Relationships with ambulance services and distribution partners. UK market readiness targeted for 2027.
We connect early-stage founders with a network of 3,700+ investors. If you are raising, or if you invest and want to see deal flow like this, get in touch.
