Recently I’ve had a lot of comments asking:
“How could you not know?”
“Surely you realised?”
“Why are you blaming someone else?”

And honestly? I understand why people ask.

Because for years I spoke openly about rebuilding my finances, budgeting and surviving over £100,000 of debt…
without really talking publicly about HOW any of it happened.

But recently something shifted.

My daughter turning 18 changed something emotionally for me and for the first time I realised:
actually… maybe it’s okay to tell the truth now.

Not to attack anyone.
Not to be bitter.
But because silence keeps so many people trapped in shame.

And I know there are people quietly rebuilding after divorce, betrayal, financial chaos or survival situations who desperately need to know they are not alone 🤍

Being Broke Changes You

People think financial struggle is about overdrafts, debt and unpaid bills.

But honestly?

I think the hardest part is what it does to your brain.

The hyper-awareness.
The constant mental maths.
The checking your banking app before buying shampoo.
The fear that one unexpected bill could completely derail your life again.

After rebuilding my life from over £100,000 of debt, I realised the first real financial milestone isn’t luxury.

It’s breathing room.

It’s finally having enough space financially that every tiny setback no longer feels catastrophic.

And I think that’s why your first £1,000 saved changes people emotionally more than almost anything else.

Because it’s not really about the money.

It’s about finally feeling slightly less afraid all the time 🤍

I think one of the biggest reasons I struggled with money when I first left school was because I simply didn’t understand it.

Not really.

Nobody properly explained:
📈 inflation
💷 interest rates
🏦 borrowing
💳 credit

…or how financial decisions actually affect everyday life.

So when the Bank of England invited me down to explore their new “Mind Your Money” challenge, I found it genuinely interesting.

The idea is basically:
👉 you become the person making the economic decisions

You try to manage inflation, interest rates and the economy without accidentally causing chaos 😭

And whilst yes — some of it definitely made my brain work 😂 — I actually think the concept behind it is important.

Because if younger people can start understanding this stuff earlier…
maybe they make different choices later.

There are also weekly prizes and a £1000 grand prize for people who take part 👀

If you want to check it out, search “Bank of England Mind Your Money”.

And thank you again to the for inviting me along ❤️

I think one of the strangest things about financial struggle is how invisible it is.

Because from the outside, life still looks normal.

You still meet friends for coffee.
You still wash your hair.
You still smile through conversations.
You still go to work, interviews, school runs and appointments whilst internally your brain is constantly calculating numbers in the background.

After rebuilding my life following over £100,000 of debt, I realised survival mode doesn’t just disappear overnight.

It changes how you think.
How you plan.
How safe you need things to feel.

And honestly? That’s why I became so structured with budgeting and routines because for the first time in my life, structure made me feel protected instead of trapped.

Tomorrow I’m going to start sharing exactly what helped me claw my way out of financial survival mode, one tiny habit at a time 🤍

This is left from my budget this week. Let’s add it to some savings challenges ☺️

One of the hardest parts of financial struggle isn’t even the money itself.

It’s the silence.

The pretending.
The smiling through conversations whilst your brain is quietly panicking in the background.
The shame that makes you feel like you’ve somehow failed at life.

After my marriage broke down I found myself trying to survive over £100,000 of debt whilst still being a mum, still functioning, still trying to hold everything together.

And for a long time I genuinely thought it was just me.

But reading your comments this week reminded me how many people are silently carrying financial stress behind closed doors.

So over here we talk honestly.
About budgeting.
Debt.
Money mistakes.
Rebuilding.
Survival.
And finding your way back to yourself again.

You are not alone 🤍

Let’s count how much money I have for my budget this week and see where it’s going to go

10/05/2026

When I first realised I had over £100k of debt tied to my name… I froze.

I think people imagine there’s some dramatic movie moment where you suddenly know exactly what to do.

There wasn’t.

There was panic. Shame. Fear. And eventually… a decision.

I had to stop hiding from the numbers if I ever wanted to change them.

And honestly? That was the moment my life actually started changing.

07/05/2026

When my ex-husband left me with over £100k of debt, I had to completely relearn how money actually worked.

I genuinely thought making good money meant I was financially secure.

Turns out… they are not the same thing.

Budgeting. Stretching food. Making things last. Selling almost everything I owned.

And weirdly… that was the first time I actually felt powerful with money.
