How can a UK business get up to £2 million in funding?

Easy.

The government backs 70% of the lender’s risk, so lenders have fewer reasons to say no.

How it works:

1. Apply through a participating lender.
2. Show that your business can repay the loan.
3. The lender decides whether to use the government guarantee.
4. Get up to £2 million to invest, hire, buy equipment or grow.

The bigger changes:

• Loans up to £1.1 million can now run for 10 years, not six.
• Businesses with turnover up to £54 million can qualify.
• An extra £2 billion in SME lending will be supported each year by 2028/29.
• Around 20,000 businesses a year could get support, up from 8,000.

There is also £500 million for IP-rich businesses in tech, life sciences and creative industries.

The UK’s SME finance gap is estimated at up to £4.1 billion a year.

Luma is a UK driving theory test app with DVSA-licensed questions, mock tests, road signs, realistic practice and a lot of content that takes actual people, time and money to make.

In normal language: how businesses handle the paperwork behind international trade, and why so much of it is still stuck in PDFs, inboxes, folders, and “can you resend this?”

This matters for any SME selling, buying, shipping, or working across borders.

Because cross-border trade is the paperwork around invoices, contracts, shipping documents, payment records, FX details, customer and supplier information.

The government wants to understand what stops SMEs from using digital trade documents properly: cost, systems, habits, legal uncertainty, or the fact that half the business world is still held together by email attachments.

Trade admin is being pushed further into digital.

And for businesses, that means the boring stuff needs to be easier to find, easier to share, and easier to prove.

The money is going into chips, cloud, data centres, quantum, coding tools, and AI studios.

And no, you do not need to build the next OpenAI.

You could be the person who helps a dental clinic stop losing leads.

We haven’t posted much about new product announcements lately.

Not because our marketing team is lazy.

They’re just recovering from the phrase: “Can we wait a bit before posting this?”

The truth is simple: many of our clients have been asking for this direction for a while.

Let’s just say this summer at Ampere may be hotter than usual.

So for now, we’ll smile and keep sharing the updates we can already talk about.

The 2026 King’s Speech puts late payments on the table.

What may change:

• Large firms may have to pay smaller suppliers within 60 days.
• Late payments may incur mandatory interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate.
• The Small Business Commissioner may get stronger powers.
• Repeat late payers may face financial penalties.
• Large companies may have to explain poor payment behaviour more openly.

Late payments cost the UK economy around £11 billion a year.

Founders spend over 86 hours chasing overdue invoices.
And according to Enterprise Nation, 38 small firms close every day.

What to do?

If your invoice is overdue, keep the paper trail, check whether statutory interest applies, and use the Small Business Commissioner route for persistent late payment.

From June 2026, UK businesses may be able to get a £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant when hiring someone aged 18 to 24 who has been looking for work for 6+ months.

And there is more coming:
A £2,000 apprenticeship incentive for some SMEs in England from October.
