STORY OF BENIN EMPIRE: I have read, watched and listened to numerous narratives about the Yoruba and the Benin Empire, who came from whom. From the incredible to the bizzarred. Reading between the lines, it would seems that history is the easiest thing to falsify and farbricate. Some of the names you will hear in these narratives include: Idu, Igodomigodo, Ogiso, Ogieamien, Ikaladerhan, Izoduwa, Oduduwa, Omonoyan, Oronmiyan, and Oba. there is a lot creativity in the narratives. In my opinion, Igodomigodo the land of Idu people was invaded by Oromiyan a Yoruba warrior during the Ogiso Dynasty. The battle lasted for many years during which a part of the Kingdom was captured, many of the inhabitants were killed and a large number of the people including the Esan, Isoko, Urhobo, Afemiah, migrated out of the city. Due to the fierce resistance and opposition to the invading forces, Oronmiyan left and returned back to Yoruba land. After his departure, the Idu woman whom he had relationship with, gave birth to his son - Eweka, who later became Oba Eweka starting the Oba Dynasty. Being the son of Oronmiyan, Oba Eweka is techinically a Yoruba man. This fact is not lost with some of the Idu People who are supporting Ojieamien as their Monarch even till date. Eweka's great decendant - Oba Esigie is the founder of Eko (Lagos).
