But that’s barely scratching the surface.

I was invited to 10 Downing Street.

Read on to hear about how it went.

On an unassuming Friday, I received an email calling for my attendance at a round-table discussion with Lord Dominic Johnson (the Minister for Investment and Regulatory Reform) and Frank R M Petitgas (the Prime Minister’s Business and
Investment Adviser).

🤣 Want a little laugh?
I called all the phone numbers I could find to make sure the email was not a prank, and that someone was not just winding me up! I finally got through to a lovely gentleman who confirmed it was real… 😳

The discussion centred around small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) growth, with a focus on smarter regulation.

To start the meeting, Frank confirmed the three main areas that support growth:
↳ Innovation
↳ Investment
↳ Simplification

After a few laughs…

The small group of 9 business owners, went on to, in turn, share their areas of contention on where regulation was making their growth a challenge. Dominic listened, questioned, and took time to ensure he truly understood the root of the problem.

I listened, keenly, as I heard about the major issues each business owner faced, ready to share my thoughts and the challenges the founders I support struggle with.

Before the day, I had sent a message to my community of business owners asking what they would want me to raise. And, I must say, did they show up! 🙏🏽

Common challenges included:
📍 Struggles with utilising Access to Work as a disabled founder
📍 Income restrictions and heavy administration when applying for funding
📍 Limited growth due to low financial acumen and keenness to learn financial fundamentals

It was a great day.

I truly enjoyed being a voice for my largely creative, service-based, disabled, neurodiverse and non-white business owners.

Please look out for my comprehensive write-up about the experience and more takeaways from the day.

If you have any thoughts to add on the topic, please share in the comments or DM.

[BTW - there’s no obligatory No.10 picture as the location was changed last minute to The Cabinet Office instead!]

Why do you care?

Maybe it’s the same reason why I cared…

😔 I used to be very self-conscious, worrying about others’ opinions of:
my acne skin - so I piled on the makeup
my slimness - so I wore baggy clothes
how I read - so I didn’t read aloud
the way I dance - so I held back

I no longer care.
If you still care, below are some reasons why I don’t, and I give them to you to steal.

⭕ Others might overlook your potential, holding you back from your greatness.
⭕ Their viewpoints might be narrowly focused, limiting your broader vision.
⭕ Others may lack the full understanding of your goals and aspirations.
⭕ Opinions can be fear-driven, and may exist out of self-protection.
✨ Being unapologetically yourself is the epitome of beauty.

I had a good view! 👀

But I didn’t know it at the time!

Did you know that some of the most important reasons people start is to be their own boss, because they’re unhappy with their corporate careers, and to pursue their passion?

Working in million-pound businesses from the age of 21 has given me insight into what a successful business looks like up close and personal. 🪑 I’ve sat in the department, able to see how actions impact the numbers and how sensitive business performance can be to the unexpected. Let me share.

↳ Below are 5 areas that I believe are crucial for a successful business.

💡 **Efficient Business Operations**
Optimised internal processes maximise and keep costs low.
TIP: Make it a habit to continuously refine workflows to enhance .

💡 **Strategic Pricing**
Use pricing strategies that align with your business objectives and market positioning.
TIP: Consider drivers when creating your strategy, and regularly review it to stay competitive and profitable.

💡 **Good Leadership and Management**
Foster a culture of leadership and accountability within your organisation, and make sure people feel good!
TIP: Invest in leadership development to empower your teams - they’ll feel and do good!

💡 **Data-Informed Decision-Making**
Base decisions on data-driven insights and comprehensive analysis - crucial!
TIP: Create a decision-making framework that considers risks, rewards, and long-term impact.

💡 **Confidence and Self-Belief**
Build self-confidence and belief in your abilities as an entrepreneur.
TIP: Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and take steps to maintain a positive mindset.

⁉️ Friends, have I missed anything?

After I made this one mental shift, everything changed.

I realised that…

“I am in FULL control of my destiny and decide my own reality.”

The month that I had that mental shift was the month I earned the most I ever had in my business.

There is nothing special about me.

Read below for the mental shift I help others have.

📌 Cultivate an Abundance Mindset (you can have it all)
Shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance. Instead of dwelling on limitations and what’s lacking, focus on opportunities and abundance. Believe that there are ample financial opportunities and that you are capable of seizing them.

📌 Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity (learn what doesn’t work)
Don't fear financial setbacks or mistakes. Instead, see them as valuable learning experiences. Every financial challenge can teach you something new and bring you one step closer to your financial goals.

📌 Practise Daily Affirmations (prime your brain for opportunities)
Create positive financial affirmations that reinforce your financial goals and beliefs. For example, "I am financially abundant and make wise money choices." Repeat these affirmations daily to boost your confidence and reshape your financial mindset.

📌 Visualise Financial Success (let the subconscious do the work)
Spend time each day visualising your financial success. Imagine achieving your goals, whether it's paying off debt, starting a business, or retiring comfortably. Visualisation can boost your confidence and keep you motivated.

📌 Surround Yourself With Positive Influences (consume goodness)
Build a support network of people who uplift and encourage your financial journey. Engage with individuals who share your financial goals or have successfully achieved them. Their positivity and insights can inspire and reinforce your beliefs.

Are you familiar with the 3 yeses?

I recently delivered a talk for BSWN: Black South West Network and about negotiating.

One concept I spoke about was the three yeses.

💡 No. 1: The yes that is really a NO
💡 No. 2: The compliant yes, usually made simply to pass the time
💡 No. 3: The yes that is a real YES (”I want to buy!”)

… During the masterclass, I spent a bit of time on yes no. 1.

I speak with a lot of founders who are frustrated about hearing a yes, then being ghosted.
They share their frustration, annoyance and irritation about the lies and confusion…
But I ensure to spend time explaining some realities.

Alongside the change of mind, unexpected circumstances and forgetfulness…
Some people are uncomfortable.

Some people:
⛔ Fear turning others down
⛔ Do not know how to assert themselves
⛔ Feel obliged to go along with the conversation

This often means they end up saying yes when they mean no….

✅ Avoid this by focusing on the noes.
✅ Ask effective questions, handle objections and get to the real needs and wants.
✅ That way you can tailor conversations and your offer to directly meet their needs.

👍🏽 And secure a real YES!

[Image: I used to work in …. long story!]

⁉️ Have you tried any of the above?

Simple profit-boosting pricing strategy for new business owners.

When you are deciding on how to price your services…
Do you consider how much you can deliver?
This can be the basis for your prices.

Let’s take a simple example:
➖ You sell websites to recently opened accountancy firms 👀
➖ Your organisation can deliver 8 websites a month
➖ You need to calculate your sales price…

Your total monthly expenses, including salary and overheads, is £30,000.
(Please do not judge my numbers!)

🎯 You want a profit of £10,000 per month.
Therefore, income needs to be £40,000.

💡 If you can sell 8 websites per month and need income of £40,000… your sales price is £5,000.
Selling 8 websites per month at £5,000 will bring in £40,000.
Overheads of £30,000.

🎯 This will generate £10,000 of profit per month.
(Note: this does not include tax - get in touch if you need help with those calculations.)

💡 The point I want to make:
So many founders get hung on on their pricing strategy.
Sometimes it can be really simple.
Pricing is a journey.
It will change.

You can and should base your pricing on what makes sense to you and your business model.
Your pricing may be completely different to that of others in your immediate circle, and that’s okay.
Of course, your branding, marketing, positioning and target audience play a major role.

✨ I support founders with pricing, financial confidence, modelling, cashflow… all things profit-increasing.

I hope this has helped.
✨ Let me know!
