The week ahead.
This week is likely to be defined by credit, not by the Al story. Watch CoreWeave's bonds and the wider unprofitable, highly leveraged Al space.US high-yield spreads widened from 2.65% on 1 Sep to 3.23% on 15 Oct, and the riskiest CCC bonds from 10.49% to 12.78%. If the debt markets keep tightening, the names that rely on borrowing feel it first. What to watch this week: credit spreads, oil, the consumer and the bond market

Volatility in Al stocks is nothing new. In the week to 15 Oct. Dell fell 17.6 %. CoreWeave 14.6% and AMD 9.4%. On 15 Oct CoreWeave was down 9.5% bv 09:55 New York time and closed up 5.9%. Rotation, crowding, positioning and the bond market drive these moves. Understand them before vou trade them.

Why is the index barely moving while single stocks swing 10% in a day? lt's dealer gamma.
When dealers are short gamma, their hedging chases the move and forces stocks higher or lower. When they're long gamma, they sell the rallies and buy the dips, and prices get pinned.

Earnings season starts this week JPMorgan and Goldman report Tuesday, BlackRock and ASML Wednesday, and TSMC Thursday. But the most important event is Wednesday's CPI, with headline inflation expected to rise to 3.6%. And tomorrow, the US bond market is closed for Columbus Day, while stocks trade as normal. Meanwhile is holding $320k of Moderna calls with a $350 target based on a dream. That's not a process. That's a lottery ticket.

Risk management is everything. Yesterday the Al capex trade cracked on one headline: a report that OpenAl's annualised revenue is around $50bn, not the $70bn the market had in its head. Chip stocks fell 3.4%, Oracle 5.5%, Broadcom 4.3%, and Micron 4.8%. When a trade is this crowded, it doesn't need bad results to sell off, just doubt Size your positions for the day the story gets questioned, not the day it's working.

Yesterday’s US 10 year auction was well bid.. a world away from the 5 year two weeks ago. It stopped 1.7bp through, with a 2.77 bid-to-cover, and dealers were left with just 2.5%. Then the FOMC minutes confirmed the hawkish tilt. Bonds sold off, bounced back, and ended where they started. The message hasn't changed: too much fiscal spending, too much inflation, and real yields pointing to more from the Fed.

Two weeks ago the US 5 year auction tailed 3.1 basis points.. the second widest on record. with the weakest demand since 2018 Tonight at 6pm UK the 10 year goes to auction, and the market will see whether buvers have come back.
