Swansea's city centre is transforming, one project at a time ✍️

The corner unit at 254-260 Oxford Street is now open and trading as Greggs, bringing new footfall and energy back to this important part of the city centre.

This is the first step in our redevelopment, which will deliver 33 high-quality affordable apartments on the upper floors alongside improved retail space.

We’re pleased to see the site coming back to life and continuing our work to support Swansea’s regeneration.

Development News: 1 Oxford Street 📣

We’re delighted to confirm that full planning permission has been unanimously approved for Kartay’s mixed-use redevelopment of 1 Oxford Street in Swansea City Centre.

Following more than two years of collaboration with Swansea Council and key stakeholders, this milestone marks a significant step forward in the regeneration of this strategic city centre site, overlooking Castle Gardens, currently undergoing its own revival.

The scheme will extend and comprehensively refurbish the existing building, delivering 29 private rental apartments alongside new and repurposed commercial space, bringing long-disused upper floors back into active use and creating lasting value for Castle Gardens and the wider area.

We look forward to progressing to delivery and contributing to the transformation of a key city centre location.

The redevelopment of 1 Oxford Street marks a new chapter for one of Swansea’s most familiar urban landmarks 🏗️

Overlooking Castle Square, which is currently undergoing a transformation of its own, our plan for 1 Oxford Street includes the modernisation of the building’s existing infrastructure to match Castle Square’s new, vibrant aesthetic.

The ground floor will continue to host McDonald’s and Taco Bell, and will also introduce a new retail unit with prime Castle Square frontage. Subject to planning, the upper floors will be reimagined to include 29 high-quality residential apartments, providing residents with enviable accommodation in central Swansea.

We’re proud to be contributing to the transformation of historical town centre space, Castle Gardens, joining Swansea Council and fellow local developers working to restore it to its former glory.

Our redevelopment works of the upper floors of the Castle Square McDonald’s building is due to start within the next six months (subject to planning permission) providing people with more residential options within the city centre, improving urban living and boosting footfall.
