This afternoon, Downtown in Business was hosted our Liverpool City Region Parliamentary Reception at the Terrace Pavilion in Westminster, bringing together leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the opportunities and ambitions shaping the future of the city region.

We were delighted to hear from an excellent line-up of speakers, including Liam Robinson, Peter Dowd, Ryan Wain, Tony Cobain, Ian Moore and Bill Addy. Their insights highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving investment, growth, skills and connectivity across the Liverpool City Region.

A key theme throughout the reception was the strength of the relationship between business and government. By working together, the public and private sectors can create the conditions needed for sustainable economic growth and continued success for the city region.

A huge thank you to our headline sponsors Liverpool Business Improvement District, MJ Quinn and The City of Liverpool College, alongside our brand sponsors Poke Marketing, Compliance Chain, Liverpool City Region, Causeway and Sutcliffe, for helping to make today's event possible.

What a fantastic evening we had last night at the beautiful One Great George Street for our Liverpool City Region pre-Parliamentary Reception.

A big thank you to our headline sponsors, Liverpool Business Improvement District, MJ Quinn and The City of Liverpool College.

It was great to hear from the Leader of Liverpool City Council, Liam Robinson, as well as a number of leading figures from across the business community, representing many of the city region's key sectors, all sharing their vision for the future of Liverpool.

The overriding message was clear: Liverpool is proud of its achievements, but never satisfied. Our city region continues to push forward with ambition, confidence and a determination to be even better.

Looking forward to taking that message to Westminster today.

With Downtown in Business heading back to Parliament next week for our 2026 Liverpool City Region Parliamentary Reception, we're taking a look back at some of the highlights from last year's event.

The reception provides a valuable opportunity to connect business leaders with key political decision-makers, ensuring that the voice of the Liverpool City Region is heard at the heart of government.

This year, we are delighted to be joined by Alison McGovern, Liam Robinson, and a number of MPs from across the city region as we continue the conversation around investment, growth, and the opportunities ahead for Liverpool and its business community.

Before we return to Westminster, here's a look back at the highlights from our 2025 reception.

DIB was delighted to host our Leaders Lunch at the Crowne Plaza Liverpool City Centre in collaboration with Prosper UK.

Founded in January 2026, Prosper UK is a new political movement championing practical, pro-enterprise policies and providing a platform for those who feel politically homeless in today's political landscape.

We were delighted to welcome Andy Street, who spent time listening to the concerns, challenges and opportunities raised by local business leaders. The discussion covered a range of issues affecting businesses across the Liverpool City Region, giving attendees the opportunity to share their experiences directly and contribute to a constructive conversation about the future of business, growth and investment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an engaging and insightful afternoon. Events like these play an important role in connecting business leaders with decision-makers and ensuring the voice of the business community is heard.

An incredible few days at 👏

From our Leaders Lunch with Angela Barnicle discussing the future of Leeds, to our Partners Dinner featuring Tim Johnson, Richard Lawrence, Nick Gerrard and Andrew Lewis, this week was packed with important conversations around growth, regeneration and investment across the UK’s regions.

We also partnered with Kier Group for a fascinating discussion with Nick Gerrard and Dan Price on devolution in Cheshire and Lancashire, before hosting a brilliant heritage restoration roundtable alongside PJ Livesey and Historic England.

A huge thank you to all of our partners, members and guests who joined us in Leeds this week.

With Andy Burnham once again attracting plenty of attention on the national stage, it seems like a good moment to revisit our conversation with one of the UK’s most prominent regional leaders back in 2013.

As Mayor of Greater Manchester, he has been a powerful advocate for devolution, investment and inclusive growth, demonstrating the impact that strong local leadership can have on driving economic success.

At a time when the role of metro mayors is becoming increasingly significant, Andy’s contribution to the national debate continues to resonate well beyond Greater Manchester.

Last year at UKREiiF 2025, Downtown in Business brought together business leaders, politicians, investors and developers for a packed programme of interviews, networking events and discussions on the future of the UK economy.

From high-profile speakers and major investment announcements to our popular lunches and dinners, UKREiiF once again proved why it has become one of the most important dates in the property and regeneration calendar.

Next week, we return to Leeds with our biggest delegation yet for what promises to be another outstanding few days of debate, deal-making and relationship-building.

See you at UKREiiF.
