π’ NO JOKES! New Stamp Duty Changes Are Now in Effect! π‘
As of today, April 1st, 2025, new Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) rules are live β and they could impact buyers across the UK.
Hereβs whatβs changed:
πΉ Standard Buyers:
Youβll now pay 2% SDLT on property purchases over Β£125,000 (down from the old Β£250K threshold).
πΉ First-Time Buyers:
The tax-free threshold has dropped to Β£300,000, with 5% due between Β£300KβΒ£500K.
(Previously, you could buy up to Β£425K without paying a penny.)
πΉ Additional Properties:
The 5% surcharge remains in place for second homes and buy-to-lets.
π°Example:
Buying at Β£295,000? Youβll now pay Β£4,750 in SDLT β thatβs Β£2,500 more than before April 1st!
