I’m in the farm insurance broking business and consequently my living and my teams financial well-being depends upon my success in arranging insurance solutions which work for my farming clients. You’d therefore imagine my greatest satisfaction comes from building remunerative contracts with clients.
However, what I find is that I experience the greatest satisfaction in my working life through building relationships, regardless of whether they pay me well or not.
Today I was in East Yorkshire with a new client whom I first met today. There is something very special about these first meetings. In a 2 hour chat at the kitchen table I’ve been granted a trust and an insight into my clients life and their farming challenges. We’ve been earnest, but laughed and with touching family stories, been close to tears as well. It’s a familiar pattern and one I’m constantly aware of in respect of how important this is to both my client and me. Agriculture is a tough environment at the moment. Having someone to talk to has never been more important.
Family succession, bereavement, financial pressure, mental well-being, rural crime, political change and not to mention the recent dreadful weather and all it has dealt to our farms brings an awful lot of pressure to bear.
The Farming Community Network is an organisation at the heart of our farming industry, dealing with these worries of our farming community day after day. I know how hard this organisation works to support those in need across the nation.
Today, being granted an opportunity to make a small difference means the world to me. So I can understand what drives FCN and their team.
These core principles lay at the heart of what we do at Dallas Scott Davey Ltd too.
