🪜 “Don’t worry, I’ll get the ladder. It’ll only take five minutes.”

At many clubs, there’s always a helpful member, volunteer or committee member willing to tackle a loose roof tile, blocked gutter or broken light themselves.

That willingness to help is invaluable, but working at height is never risk-free. Even a seemingly straightforward repair can lead to a serious or fatal fall if the task isn’t properly planned, the correct equipment isn’t used or the person carrying it out hasn’t received appropriate training.

Recent figures show that people aged over 60 accounted for a third of workplace fatalities, despite making up just 12% of the workforce.

Experience doesn’t remove the danger. Before asking a volunteer to climb a ladder or access a roof, stop and consider whether the job should be left to a trained professional.

Our latest article explores the risks of working at height and the practical steps clubs can take to protect their members, volunteers and employees.

⚠️ The cost of asbestos can go far beyond the removal bill!

For clubs operating from older buildings, asbestos-containing materials may be hidden in everything from ceiling tiles and flooring to pipe lagging and guttering. They can remain undisturbed for years, but refurbishment, repairs or even relatively minor improvements could uncover a serious risk.

Failing to manage asbestos properly can expose employees, volunteers and contractors to harm, while also leaving your club facing costly removal work, disruption, fines and potential legal action.

Before lifting flooring, replacing a boiler or starting that long-awaited clubhouse renovation, make sure you understand your responsibilities and have the correct surveys and plans in place.

Our latest article explores the potential financial consequences of asbestos and the steps clubs should take before beginning work.

Your pitch can be damaged in minutes. The impact can last for weeks.

Recent reports of off-road bikes and quads being driven across sports club pitches are a stark reminder for committees: pitch protection cannot wait until after the damage is done.

For many grassroots clubs, one incident can mean cancelled fixtures, repair costs, unhappy members and a huge amount of volunteer time spent picking up the pieces.

So, what can your club do now?

✅ Review access points, gates, fencing, bollards and weak spots
✅ Add deterrents such as lighting and clear “no motor vehicles” signage
✅ Consider CCTV or camera options where appropriate
✅ Keep an incident log, even for attempted access or suspicious activity
✅ Agree who contacts the police, council, insurers and nearby residents
✅ Take photos, gather repair quotes and document the wider impact

A simple pitch protection plan could make all the difference when anti-social behaviour hits your local area.

We’ve pulled together practical steps to help sports clubs reduce risk, act quickly and protect their playing surfaces.

Every great club has people behind the scenes who keep things moving.

The volunteers who give up their evenings. The committee members who solve problems quietly. The coaches, welfare officers, general managers and long-serving members who help clubs stay at the heart of their communities.

That is what our Club Champions campaign is all about.

We are celebrating the people and clubs making a real difference across British sport and social life.

No club wants to think about employee theft or fraud.

But clubs handle money, stock, payments and accounts, often across small teams, committees, volunteers and trusted staff. When something goes wrong, the financial impact can be serious.

Fidelity insurance, often included within a Management Liability Policy, can help protect clubs against deliberate dishonest acts such as skimming cash, manipulating payments or abusing business accounts.

It is a difficult subject, but one worth understanding before there is a problem.

Planning to show the World Cup at your club or village hall? ⚽

Big matches can mean big opportunities. More footfall. More atmosphere. More bar sales. More reasons for your community to come together.

But bigger crowds can also bring bigger risks.

Before kick-off, make sure you’ve thought about the practical bits: licensing, capacity, CCTV, staffing, stock levels, temporary equipment and whether your insurance still matches what’s happening on site.

A packed clubhouse for an England or Scotland game is brilliant, but it’s also exactly the kind of moment where the right preparation matters.

Club Insure has pulled together some key advice to help clubs and village halls get ready for World Cup screenings with confidence.

Running a club means managing more than just the day-to-day.

Health and safety, fire risk, employment issues, manual handling, COSHH, staff handbooks, risk assessments… it can quickly become a long list, especially for clubs supported by volunteers or small teams.

Our risk management team helps clubs spot potential issues early, strengthen procedures and protect both people and premises.

Good risk management is not about adding paperwork for the sake of it. It is about helping your club stay safe, compliant and ready for whatever comes next.

When a claim happens, the true value of your broker becomes clear.

One Club Insure client said this perfectly after their insurer initially sought to decline cover. Our team challenged the decision, fought on their behalf and helped secure a fair payment.

That’s why claims support matters.

Price and policy wording are important, but when something goes wrong, clubs need people who understand the sector, know how to challenge decisions and can guide them through the process properly.

Renewal season can put real pressure on clubs 📑

With rising costs, increased premiums and tight budgets, it can be tempting to cut back on cover to save money. But reducing protection too far can leave your club exposed when you need support most.

At Club Insure, we help clubs review their existing cover, understand where policies may fall short and explore whether better terms are available without compromising protection.

Because the right insurance should do more than tick a box. It should give your club confidence.

Could padel tennis open up a new revenue stream for your golf club?

Across the UK, golf clubs are exploring new ways to attract members, diversify their facilities and make better use of their space.

Padel tennis is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and for golf clubs with the right facilities, it could offer a valuable opportunity to bring in new visitors, increase secondary spend and add a fresh dynamic to the club environment.

But as with any new facility, it’s important to think carefully about the practical risks too. From construction and maintenance to member safety, liability, security, equipment and insurance cover, clubs should take a joined-up approach before making changes.

Our latest article explores the benefits of padel tennis for golf clubs, and the key risk and insurance considerations to keep in mind.
