Do you know if your estate could be liable for inheritance tax?

Do you ever take a day for personal admin?

Most people have around 25 days of holiday each year. A fortnight away if you're fortunate, mixed in with a few for school events and birthdays. That normally leaves a few days.

Make one of them an admin day.

✅ Optician in the morning
✅ Dentist before lunch
✅ Financial adviser in the afternoon
✅ And if it's December, the Christmas shopping on the way home

The jobs we put off can stay on a to-do list for ages, but if you give them a day of their own, they're normally done by teatime.

Emma’s prediction? 👀

A fairly low-key Budget, with potentially bigger changes to come in April.

But with the government under pressure to raise revenue, one area worth keeping an eye on is Capital Gains Tax (CGT).

There’s been ongoing discussion about the difference between Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax rates, so it’s worth being prepared rather than waiting to see what happens.

If you’re sitting on investment gains, now is a good time to ask yourself:

💷 Do you know what gains you’re currently sitting on?
📋 Do you have a strategy for managing them?
🔍 When did you last review your position?

Whatever the Budget brings, understanding your finances and knowing your options puts you in a stronger position to make informed decisions.

Don’t leave it until the last minute. Getting the information you need from some providers can take several weeks, so being organised now could give you more options later.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what’s announced. But when it comes to financial planning, a little preparation can go a long way.

Huge good luck to Jen as she sets off to take on the Everest Base Camp trek.

After months of training, Jen is ready to take on this incredible adventure to support Supporting Nepal's Children. This charity helps young people access vocational education so they can learn a trade, earn a living with dignity, and build a future in their own country.

The fundraising total currently stands at £3,504 of the £5,000 target. With just £1,496 to go, this is the final push, and every donation, big or small, will help get them over the line before they go.

Pentelow Wealth Management is proudly funding the trip, so every penny raised goes directly to the charity. Thanks to St. James's Place, every pound raised will also be matched to support UK charity Jamie's Farm, which means your donation goes twice as far.

A little friendly competition, great food and even better company! 🎯🥂

Our recent team social started with a few rounds of darts at The Black Cat, followed by a delicious Greek meal at Olive Tree Brasserie and on to drinks at All Bar One.

It's always lovely to step away from the day-to-day, spend time together outside the office and enjoy the people who make Pentelow what it is.

Building a great team is about more than working together. It's about the relationships, the laughs and the memories made along the way.

We’ve seen a lot of old pensions over the years… but four bags for life and four exploding box files might be a new record for Emma.

It’s not unusual for people to reach retirement with pensions scattered across different providers and old employers.

Unopened letters, forgotten paperwork and pensions from jobs they haven’t thought about in years.

And when someone says:

“I have no idea what’s in all of this.”
That’s exactly where we can help.

Bringing scattered pensions together can sound like a huge job, but the first step is simply understanding what you actually have.

We start by building a picture of your working life:

📋 Where have you worked and when?
📬 Which pensions do you already know about?
🔎 Which ones have you lost track of?
💷 What are the charges and benefits?
🔐 Are there any valuable guarantees or protections attached?

For pensions that have been lost or forgotten, there are also free government tracing services that can help locate old schemes.

Once the information starts coming in, we go through the details carefully. Consolidating pensions isn't simply a case of “move everything into one pot.”

Sometimes an old pension contains valuable benefits that could be lost if it's transferred.

In one recent case for Emma, an existing pension included £100,000 of life cover that would have been lost by moving the pension. Keeping it where it was was an important part of the advice.
