Guid mornin', Scotland! The day's the day we raise a dram tae oor ain National Bard, Rabbie Burns!
Mony a braw verse he gied us, frae wee sleekit beasties tae bonnie lassies, but for us, there's a poem that aye stirs the soul an' hits ye richt in the hairt. It's the ane that speaks o' equality an' guid will, the ane that tells us tae look ayont the claes an' the titles. Oor favourite, withoot a dout, is "A Man's a Man for A' That."
He kent fine what he was talkin' aboot when he penned these words:
What tho’ on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin-gray, an’ a’ that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine,
A man’s a man for a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
Their tinsel show an’ a’ that;
The honest man, tho’ e’er sae poor,
Is king o’ men for a’ that.
