🚗 Big changes are coming for learner drivers in Northern Ireland.

From 1 October 2026, the new Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) scheme will introduce some of the biggest changes to learner and newly qualified drivers in decades.

Some of the key changes include:
✅ A minimum 6-month learning period before taking your practical test.
✅ A structured learner training programme and logbook.
✅ A 24-month new driver period.
✅ New night-time passenger restrictions for some newly qualified drivers under 24.
✅ Changes to R-plates and the removal of the current 45mph restriction.

If you, your son or daughter, or someone you know is learning to drive, it's worth understanding how these new rules could affect the journey to getting on the road.
