The John Burns Foundation

The John Burns Foundation The John Burns Foundation is a charitable trust founded to help make a difference to the lives of people and their pets throughout the UK.

Burns Pet Nutrition is a local business that grew and flourished thanks to the incredible support from the community in south west Wales, so it’s only right that we give something back to help and inspire charities, organisations and individuals to achieve their goals too. That’s why in 2007 Burns Pet Nutrition set up a charitable trust to help make a difference to the lives of people and their pe

ts throughout the UK. It’s not just financial assistance we provide – we also share our resources and skills, especially when conservation, the countryside, education or pets are involved. We are developing exciting new projects and partnerships that help enhance the lives of disadvantaged people, by offering practical recreational facilities and life skill opportunities, as well as promoting the effects of the human animal bond with our Burns by Your Side Reading Dog scheme launched this year. We hope to develop meaningful partnerships with human rights and welfare organisations and would welcome any enquiries about how we can work together. Before starting work, Chris and Bridget had a chat with us all regarding arrangements for next week's trip to Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire, and also thanked those who came and attended the Garden Open Day.

Lynda Jones from Mencap Cymru Carmarthenshire Compass mentioned to the group about the upcoming one day training course on being safe online being held at Carmarthenshire People First on 30th June, and also about the consultation on the West Wales Learning Disability Strategy.

After the chat, myself, Ceri, Christian, Brandon, and Dai did some cooking in the kitchen with Bridget.
This week we made sausages with home made onion gravy, new potatoes, broad beans, carrots, sugar snap peas, parsnips and cabbage.
Me and Ceri worked on the onion gravy, the potatoes, the carrots and potatoes, whilst Christian, Brandon and Dai worked on the Yorkshire Puddings, broad beans, sausages..
As well as helping Bridget to make this week's lunch I also helped her to make from scratch pavalovas.

Meanwhile the rest of the group including Wayne, Brendan, Shaun, Emma, Aaron, Simon H and Steff went outside with Chris to do lots of jobs.
One of the jobs that they did in the morning was putting wood chip down, planting in the polytunnel and clearing away the broad beans.

Once everyone outside completed their jobs for the morning, they all went back to the workshop to have some lunch.

Everyone really enjoyed their lunch very much.

In the afternoon, myself, Ceri, Christian, Brandon and Dai helped Bridget in the kitchen to wash, clean and dry up.
Meanwhile the rest of the group assisted Chris to do some work in the wood shed

Before going home we put the tools away in the shed ready for another day.

Next week, members and staff of the Growing Together group will be going on a road trip to Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire.

🐾 What a fantastic day at the Senedd! 🐾

Yesterday, some of our amazing Burns By Your Side volunteer teams joined the National School Dog Alliance - NSDA to showcase the incredible difference they and their dogs are making in schools every single day 💙

Even better, we were joined by some brilliant pupils who’ve experienced the programme first-hand – sharing their stories (and smiles!) about how much these special dogs have helped them 🐶✨

We are so proud of our wonderful volunteers and their truly legendary dogs for their commitment, kindness, and dedication to making such important impacts in children’s lives ❤️ Ysgol Penygaer School Ysgol Bro Dinefwr

We still have a small number of beautiful handmade benches and planters looking for homes.

If one of these could find a place in your garden or home, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Chris Cray on 07494 321234 for more details.

This is what the Growing Together group did this week

Myself, Gareth, Christian, Dan, Aaron, Simon H, Wayne and Brendan went outside with Bridget and Chris, to do lots more preparation work for the Garden Open Day that was held last Friday.
Some of the many jobs that were done in the morning were mowing and strimming the grass by the polytunnel. building the children's benches and picking broad beans.

Whilst we were busy working hard outside in the sunshine, Dai helped Kate in the kitchen to make homemade cakes to sell to members of the public on the cake stall at the Garden Open Day.

Once everyone outside completed their jobs for the morning, they all went back to the workshop to have so lunch.

Everyone really enjoyed their food very much.

In the afternoon everyone went back outside to do lots more preparation work for the Garden Open Day.
Some of the preparation work that we did in the afternoon were helping to set up the plant sales area outside of the John Burns Centre. setting up the apple juice stall in the foyer of the Centre, creating signs and building an arch by the gardens.

Before going home we put away all the tools ready for another day.

Next week, the Growing Together group will be having a week off, so the Group will be back in work the following week.

Thank you Rory we did a lot of hard work preparing for the Open Day. We still have some children's picnic tables left if anyone is interested please DM us.
