You can't grow a business by squeezing the life out of it.

For many UK businesses, the cost of simply keeping things running is making it increasingly difficult to think about growth.

According to the latest British Chambers of Commerce survey, just 17% of firms plan to increase investment in plant, machinery or equipment over the next three months.

With the Autumn Budget approaching, businesses need more than promises. They need the confidence to invest, recruit and grow.

Ambition isn't the problem. Creating the conditions for businesses to thrive is what matters.

Will the Autumn Budget deliver?

At K2 Accountancy Group, we'll be following the announcements and explaining what they mean for your business.

£500,000 in turnover. Sounds like you've cracked it.

But here's the half million pound question...

How much did you actually keep?

A big turnover might turn heads, but it's profitability that makes the real difference.

Understanding where your money goes, what's working and where there's room for improvement can transform your bottom line.

At K2 Accountancy Group, we help businesses look beyond the headline figures and focus on building lasting profitability.

Don't just chase the golden egg. Make sure your business is laying them.

Let's talk profitability.

Did you know that regular gifts to family members could be exempt from Inheritance Tax, with no fixed financial limit?

Under HMRC's 'normal expenditure out of income' exemption, you may be able to give money to loved ones without those gifts forming part of your estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.

To qualify, your gifts must:

• Form part of your normal pattern of spending.
• Be funded from income rather than capital.
• Leave you with enough income to maintain your usual standard of living.

This is separate from the £3,000 annual gifting exemption, which allows you to give away up to £3,000 each tax year. Any unused allowance can be carried forward for one tax year only.

So, what records should you keep?

• The date and amount of each gift.
• Who received the money.
• Where the money came from.
• Details of your income and usual living expenses.

Good recordkeeping can help demonstrate that your gifts qualify for the exemption and make things much easier for those managing your estate.

With the right planning and good records, you could support your family during your lifetime while potentially reducing a future Inheritance Tax bill.

Not sure whether your gifts qualify? Speak to the team K2 Accountancy Group for guidance on your individual circumstances.

Qualifying income over £30,000?

HMRC is urging sole traders and landlords earning over £30,000 to start preparing now for the next phase of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.

From 6 April 2027, those with qualifying income over £30,000 from self-employment and property will be required to keep digital records and use compatible software to send quarterly updates to HMRC.

With just six months to go, now is the time to check whether the rules apply to you and make sure you have the right systems in place.

If you’re unsure what Making Tax Digital means for you or your business, speak to the K2 team.

Business is booming. So why does the bank balance say otherwise?

Sales are coming in and you’re busy. On paper, things look good.

But profit and cash in the bank are two very different things.

Late payments, rising costs, tax bills, stock, new hires or rapid growth can all put pressure on cash flow. Sometimes, the warning signs don’t become obvious until you’re already knee-deep.

Knowing what’s coming makes all the difference. What’s due in, what’s due out and where the pressure points are before they become problems.

Because a profitable business can still run out of cash.

If your numbers look healthy but your bank balance tells a different story, talk to K2 Accountancy Group.

Your accounts shouldn’t just tell you what’s already happened.

The right financial information can help you understand where your business is now, what’s coming next and where you may need to make changes.

From cash flow and forecasting to management accounts and business planning, having a clear view of the numbers can help you make better informed decisions.

Because good accounting isn’t only about looking backwards. It’s about helping you move forwards.

Need a clearer picture of where your business is heading? Speak to K2 Accountancy Group.

County Champion. Three years running. 🏹🏆

A huge congratulations to K2’s Amber Short, who has been crowned County Archery Champion for the third consecutive year!

It’s an incredible achievement and one we couldn’t let pass without celebrating.

We love hearing about what our team gets up to outside of the office, and three county titles in a row definitely deserves a K2 shout out.

Well done, Amber!

K2 Family Day at Wollaton Park

As summer draws to a close, we’re looking back at one of our favourite afternoons, getting the K2 team together with the partners, children and pets we hear so much about at work.

There was food, ice cream and a game of rounders that got surprisingly competitive, even when it climbed to almost 30 degrees!

Thanks to everyone who came along. It was a brilliant afternoon and one we’ll definitely repeat next year.

Could the definition of ‘less healthy’ food be about to get wider?

The Government is proposing changes to the nutrient profiling model used to determine which food and drink products are subject to advertising restrictions.

According to research carried out for the Advertising Association, the proposed changes could bring up to £1bn of annual UK food and drink advertising spend within the scope of the restrictions.

For businesses, the implications could go beyond advertising. Products may need to be reformulated, marketing budgets reconsidered and additional compliance costs factored into future plans.

It comes only months after the latest restrictions came into force in January, and is another reminder of how quickly the regulatory landscape can change.

For businesses affected by changing regulation, understanding the financial impact early can make planning for what comes next much easier.
